(Minghui.org) A Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, resident is still detained for his faith in Falun Gong after two weeks of detention.
Officers from the Binhe Police Station followed Mr. Chi Enhong, 76, home on April 16, 2025. They confiscated his printers, laptops, Falun Gong books, and informational materials. They also attempted to seize his wife, Ms. Zhang Yuqing, 75, and a Falun Gong practitioner. When she resisted, they threatened to jail her husband if she didn’t go to the police station to verify the confiscated items, and they ended up counting over 100 Falun Gong booklets.
At the police station, the police forced Ms. Zhang to fingerprint a document that she was not allowed to read. While having a physical examination the next day, she was found to have a serious condition and released on bail. The police ordered her family to keep her at home and threatened to arrest them if she went out.
Mr. Chi was admitted to the Fangjialan Lockup on April 17. It’s not clear whether he remains there.
Past Persecution
Since the onset of the persecution in 1999, the couple have been repeatedly arrested and given forced labor camp terms for upholding their faith. Not only them, but Mr. Chi’s brother-in-law, Mr. Xu Dawei, was also targeted for practicing Falun Gong. He was tortured at the Dongling Prison while serving an eight-year term. He died on February 16, 2009, only 13 days after he was released. He was 34.
Mr. Chi and Ms. Zhang were first arrested in late 1999 when they went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. They were arrested at Tiananmen Square and escorted back. They were held at a local detention center for a month and forced to work from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
Mr. Chi was arrested again in June 2000. He was given one year of forced labor and fined 3,000 yuan.
The couple was both arrested by officers from the Nuanquan Police Station in August 2001. Officers from the Gaizhou City Police Station attempted to force Mr. Chi to renounce Falun Gong. He was later transferred to the Yingkou Forced Labor Camp and Ms. Zhang to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, both to serve a three-year term. During their detention, one of their parents, who was over 80, deaf, and mute, relied on the couple’s daughter for care.
The police continued to harass the couple after they were released, forcing them to live away from home. Mr. Chi’s workplace also suspended his pension payments, causing tremendous financial difficulty to them while on the run.
