China Is Not the People’s, Nor Is It a Republic

Aug. 1, 2025 |   By Yi Yan

(Minghui.org) I recently read a Minghui article about lead poisoning at a kindergarten in Gansu Province in China. The article (Chinese only) links to a Minghui database that lists Falun Gong practitioners in Gansu who lost their lives during the 26-year-long persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

A screenshot of a Minghui database which lists Falun Gong practitioners who were persecuted to death during the CCP’s persecution since July 1999.

From the web page, I found a link to photos of practitioners throughout China who are confirmed to have died during the brutal persecution.

The list is long, and it does not yet include victims of the CCP’s forced organ harvesting. Looking at these practitioners, my sadness is beyond words. They were persecuted and killed simply because they wanted to be better people by following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Isn’t this tragic?

All this occurred in the People’s Republic of China. Contrary to what its name implies, I see a nation that does not belong to people–it is ruled by the CCP. It is also not a republic; instead, it’s controlled by a totalitarian regime.

In the “People’s Republic of China,” one sees a barren land filled with environmental pollution and moral degeneration. After decades of the CCP’s brutality, lies, and brainwashing, China is now filled with violence, deceit, and terror.

About 100 years ago, communism was introduced from Russia to China, starting an era of chaos and terror. About 75 years ago, the regime took power in China, leaving a trail of death and lies. Even though China has thousands of years of history, the CCP cannot tolerate traditional values and seeks to destroy Falun Gong at all costs. This persecution has further eroded morality throughout society.

Cao Xueqin, a novelist in the Qing Dynasty, wrote in Dream of the Red Chamber (known as one of the four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature):

“Looking at the empty room and deserted hall, who would imagine this was once a residence of high officials? Here we see withered grass and dead trees, but it was once a popular place for singing and dancing.”

“A person may have lots of gold and jewelry, suddenly he may become a beggar who suffers from hunger.”

“One may complain his title is too low, until he is arrested and becomes a prisoner;Today a person may suffer from cold and hunger, tomorrow he or she may become a high official with prestige.”

“In this noisy place, you finish singing and I come on stage;little do we know that, we have all mistaken this temporary place as our hometown.”

This poem is as accurate today as it was three hundred years ago. Where has China’s deeply rooted culture gone? What was the true toll of the pandemic? The CCP’s 26-year persecution of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance can only bring disaster. However, this reality is not the yearning of the hapless people there who have been dehumanized for so long by a tyrannical regime. There may be hope for China yet.
