Some said they began to practice in China while others were highly educated and heard about Falun Dafa and began practicing while living overseas. Coming from various professions and different ages, they all cherish the cultivation opportunity and will try to do better.
Lu Jinchi has practiced Falun Dafa for 20 years and talked about his experiences while telling government officials about Falun Dafa. He often told them how Falun Dafa helped him become a better person.
He worked for a university professor for 20 years and published numerous scientific papers—most of them were completed after he began practicing Falun Dafa. He always let the professor decide the authorship especially after he began to practice Falun Dafa, instead of insisting that he be listed as the lead author. The professor trusted Lu very much, and even gave him the keys to his home and office.
While visiting the offices of congressional members Lu worked closely with other practitioners and told them how they benefited from practicing Falun Dafa and about the persecution. The legislative assistants initially seemed indifferent but their attitudes later changed and they began to listen attentively.
Lu said clarifying the facts to government officials needs perseverance and it is a long-time effort. Telling them the facts is what we do, but letting the officials really understand the situation is our goal.
Liu Ping who lives in Sacramento talked about her experiences while helping with Shen Yun in Northern California and nearby states.
During the performances in Cheyenne, Wyoming, her daughter developed acute appendicitis and needed surgery. Liu finished supporting the Shen Yun performances and immediately went home. She said she was very worried about her daughter because she already lost one daughter. Her fear was an obstacle on her cultivation path.
In a second incident her mother-in-law said Liu took money from others. Although the facts were clear, Liu still felt she was slandered. Another practitioner heard about this and pointed out this could be an opportunity for her to let go of her attachment to saving face. Liu realized she always wanted a good reputation at home, at her workplace, and among practitioners. She did not want to be criticized and pursued fame even when doing Dafa projects. This not only triggered jealousy and created barriers between practitioners but also affected their joint effort of helping to save people.
Through these two incidents Liu had a better understanding of fame and sentimentality. She cherishes the opportunities to support Shen Yun. She said only when her heart is pure can she fulfill her mission of helping save people.
Tunglag Batsaikhan first heard about Falun Dafa over 20 years ago when she was in Mongolia. One aunt in China told her about the practice but she paid little attention to it. After graduating from college and going to China in 2006, she helped the aunt translate three books from Chinese to Mongolian including Zhuan Falun, The Great Way of Spiritual Perfection, and Zhuan Falun Volume II.
Batsaikhan did not know much about cultivation practice. As the aunt explained to her little by little during the translation, she understood more and more. Although she translated Zhuan Falun she did not fully understand the deeper meanings and only learned how to be a good person.
After achieving success with her work and life in 2019, Batsaikhan still felt empty. So she began to read Zhuan Falun. This time, she understood more and her heart was filled with peace as well as happiness. She decided to practice.
She soon encountered numerous xinxing conflicts. As she continued studying the Fa teachings she realized these were manifestations of karma. Not only that, Zhuan Falun also gave her discernment and strength.
Since 2020, Batsaikhan began to translate Minghui articles into Mongolian. During this process, she learned to look within and align with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. This requires one to eliminate jealousy, complaint, resentment, and other negative feelings. Although there are many challenges on the cultivation path, she is grateful to Falun Dafa and Master Li (founder of the practice) for the opportunity, and is willing to validate Falun Dafa in her own experience.
Yang Juan has practiced Falun Dafa for 17 years and she is an executive at an IT firm in the Bay Area. She talked about her experience of letting go of selfishness and complaining.
Yang often complained and felt her mother was passive. She also said her mother had poor enlightenment quality and affected her father’s cultivation. When another practitioner pointed out that Yang was not being kind, she looked inward. She realized that although her mother’s enlightenment quality was poor, she was never against Falun Dafa. In fact, she moved from China to be close to Yang.
Yang spent more time visiting and looking after her mother until she passed away. In the past, she felt she and her mother were incompatible, like oil and water. In the end, however, the barrier dissolved and they truly cared about each other.
These conflicts helped Yang to let go of selfishness and improve her xinxing. She said cultivation was like climbing a mountain – you need to follow the course and any deviation could cause problems. The path arranged by Master is the best and we need to walk it well.
Chen Yuxiao has a government job and she talked about two incidents with her husband in which she was able to look within to improve.
The first one occurred after her husband began to work in another city. Because they had difficulty communicating, the conflicts between them arose. Because her husband was not there to help her, she complained and said she felt lonely. After calming down, she looked inward and realized she needed to look at things with a positive attitude. She was thankful for what her husband had done and became more capable.
Another incident occurred when they helped prepare food during the Shen Yun tour. Because of differences in working styles and attitude, they again had conflicts and their attachments to ego and competitive mentality surfaced. Through looking within, Chen realized this was another opportunity for her to improve. By focusing on others’ positive sides she let go of her attachments and was able to collaborate well.
Chen said she was also touched by how hard the practitioners who helped in the kitchen worked. They worked long hours and sometimes sacrificed sleep to provide food for the Shen Yun artists and volunteers. She realized cooking is not only an opportunity to support Shen Yun, but also a cultivation environment.
