(Minghui.org) In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence, the Batam city government held a parade in the city center on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Falun Dafa practitioners were invited to participate in the festivities.
The organizing committee estimated that around 8,000 people participated in and watched the parade. Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad and Deputy Mayor Li Claudia Chandra opened the parade around 8:30 a.m. Behind them marched representatives from local government agencies, military units, and various communities. The Falun Dafa procession was led by the waist drum team, followed by young practitioners dressed in traditional Chinese costumes and practitioners carrying red and white balloons and the Indonesian national flag. The Falun Dafa practitioners’ neat and orderly formation was enthusiastically applauded by spectators, and many people took photos.

People from All Walks of Life Welcome Falun Dafa
The practitioners who participated in the parade came from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan. They handed out flyers to spectators and told them about the benefits of practicing Falun Dafa. Many people were interested in learning more.
Sergeant Alexsander from the Indonesian Army, who was in charge of maintaining security and order for the event, said, “I’m very proud to see Falun Dafa practitioners from neighboring countries like Malaysia. [I welcome] Falun Dafa, [and Dafa’s principles of] Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Freedom!” The word “freedom” was often repeated during the Independence Day parade, expressing the Indonesian people’s wish for their country and nation to be free of suppression.

Citra, a school teacher, said, “I am very happy to listen to and see the Falun Dafa practitioners’ waist drum team. Falun Dafa and Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance are great!”

Rizal, a civil servant who participated in the parade, told a practitioner that he learned the Falun Dafa exercises a long time ago when he lived in another city and he thought the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance were great. He said he was glad to see Falun Dafa again in Batam.

“Bank Sampah” is a local community organization that campaigns for environmental conservation. The members said they were impressed by practitioners’ waist drum team performances and called them “outstanding.” Their spokesperson, Yustin, said, “We welcome Falun Dafa, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. We thank practitioners from Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan for attending this event.”
After the parade, Zulkarnain, the head of the Youth and Sports Department of Batam City, presented a certificate of appreciation to the Falun Dafa practitioners and posed for a group photo with them.
