(Minghui.org) Ms. Fu Hong 57, from Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, stood trial on August 21, 2025, because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Fu who works at the Coal Inspection Center of the Qinhuangdao Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, was arrested at a train station on November 20, 2024, after security officers discovered Falun Gong books in her luggage.
Judge Lin Shuangquan from the Funing District Court presided over the trial on August 21, 2025. Ms. Fu’s brother was the only family member or friend allowed to attend the hearing. A woman wearing a hat and a mask sat in a corner. She did not go through the court’s security checks. Ms. Fu’s brother suspected she was from the justice bureau or the political and legal affairs committee. No other spectator was present.
Prosecutor Sun Dayun read out the indictment against Ms. Fu. When the defense lawyer began talking, Sun kept interrupting him. Judge Lin did not stop her but barred the lawyer from refuting her.
Halfway through the hearing, Lin had Ms. Fu’s brother removed from the courtroom because he was deemed a “witness.”
When Ms. Fu asked for water, Lin allowed her to have a sip before the recess but didn’t allow to drink after the recess. He told her to “endure her thirst.”
Ms. Fu testified in her own defense but Lin did not allow her to present her entire statement.
When Ms. Fu explained how Falun Gong benefited her, prosecutor Sun blurted out, “Reading a book [Falun Gong’s teachings] can achieve physical and mental health? I don’t believe it!”
The hearing ended in about two hours. Ms. Fu’s brother condemned the judge for holding a supposedly “open hearing” but only allowing him, and no other family member or friend, to attend the hearing and removing him halfway through the trial.
Ms. Fu was sent to the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center after the hearing.
