(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhao Jinzhong has been denied all forms of communication with his family since he was detained over six years ago for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Zhao of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, was arrested during a police sweep of local Falun Gong practitioners on September 7, 2019. The Wanbailin District Police Department and its subordinate Qianfeng and Dunhuafang police stations carried out the arrest. They also confiscated many valuables from his home before taking him to the Taiyuan City First Detention Center.
According to insiders, the police installed a surveillance camera on a balcony facing Mr. Zhao’s and monitored him for a long time before making the arrest. Minghui.org also recently confirmed that captain Yang Jun’an, instructor Zheng Junwen, and officer Guo Zhichen from the Dunhuafang Police Station were among the officers who arrested Mr. Zhao.
It is unclear when Mr. Zhao was indicted, tried, or sentenced. Minghui.org confirmed in December 2022 that the Yingze District Court had sentenced him to ten years. It is not known when he was admitted to the Jinzhong City Prison (located in Qi County).
The authorities have never issued any official notice (be it a detention notice, an indictment, a verdict, or prison admission notice) to Mr. Zhao’s family since his arrest. When they found out he was being transferred to prison, they went to the prison to deposit money for him but were not allowed to. The guards also did not let them visit him in person because he “had not admitted he was ‘guilty’ because he practiced Falun Gong.”
The guards told the family to leave a phone number and promised to call them if there was anything they needed to know. No one ever called, and Mr. Zhao was never allowed to call or write to his family. His parents, in their 90s, miss him dearly, and his siblings have to come up with excuses to explain his absence every time the elderly couple wonder why their youngest son hasn’t visited them in years.
