(Minghui.org) A woman in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, was recently sentenced to one and a half years because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Wenhua put up informational materials about Falun Gong at the Fenghuangshan tourist site on November 23, 2025, and was reported by a visitor. Yang Lei, a park ranger, reported her to his manager, Sun Huilin, who called the police.
Officers from the Shuangta District Police Department located Ms. Liu’s home by viewing surveillance camera footage. She was arrested while on her way to work around 7 a.m. on March 19, 2026, and detained at the Chaoyang City Detention Center.
The Shuangta District Police Department later submitted Ms. Liu’s case to the Shuangta District Procuratorate. They fabricated evidence against her, claiming that she was recorded by a drone while she put up Falun Gong materials.
Ms. Liu was indicted at an unknown time by prosecutor Zhou Lifang, with the charge of “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong practitioners in China.
Prior to Ms. Liu’s hearing by the Shuangta District Court on July 27, 2026, the presiding judge Geng Hongyan threatened her lawyer and also ordered the local justice bureau to dispatch officers to monitor the lawyer during the hearing. Judge Geng later sentenced Ms. Liu to one and a half years.
Ms. Liu is scheduled to be admitted to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison in the capital of Shenyang on October 19.
