(Minghui.org) Five residents in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province, were recently sentenced for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Ren Shuling was given one and a half years with a 10,000-yuan fine. The other four practitioners were all sentenced to ten months and fined 5,000 yuan. They are: Mr. Yang Shuguang, 72, his wife, Ms. Wang Qingrong, 69, Ms. Wu Shiyang, and Mr. Wu Chenghua.
Arrests
The five practitioners were arrested on January 31, 2026, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials in apartment buildings.
According to an insider, the Xinxing District Police Department established a special task force upon receiving the tip. They used drones and other surveillance techniques to monitor the practitioners for a long time before making the arrests.
The drone pictures and other surveillance footage captured Ms. Ren producing Falun Gong materials, Mr. Yang and his wife transporting the materials, Mr. Wu distributing the materials, and Ms. Wu repairing Ms. Ren’s computer. The police used it as evidence to arrest the practitioners and raid their homes.
Trial
Prosecutor Wu Qiong from the Taoshan District Procuratorate indicted the five practitioners. She notified one of the defense lawyers in June 2026 that the case had been forwarded to the Taoshan District Court.
The five practitioners stood trial on August 13, 2026, and were sentenced weeks later (exact time unknown).
It is unclear whether the practitioners are still held at the Qitaihe City Detention Center or have been admitted to prisons.
Falun Gong Restored Their Health
Mr. Yang, born in July 1954, developed various job-related ailments, including stomach problems, a slipped disc, cervical spondylosis, and cerebrovascular disease. He became incapacitated at one point and had to take an extended leave from work from October 1995 to November 1996.
Mr. Yang traveled to Shandong Province for better treatment but nothing helped. He exhausted his savings and was in despair. Someone gave him a copy of Zhuan Falun Falun Gong’s main book. His symptoms disappeared in just one month, and he was able to resume working at the Taoshan coal mine.
Ms. Wang, born in June 1957, had to take medications every day to keep her gynecological diseases and nephritis under control. After she took up Falun Gong in December 1996, she made a full recovery in one month. She also became a better person and improved her relationship with her husband.
