(Minghui.org) For middle-aged and older adults who bear the dual burdens of family and work, finding balance amid multiple roles and life’s challenges is a common issue.
After a recent Falun Dafa experience-sharing conference in Taiwan, several practitioners from different fields—including journalism, education, healthcare, and aviation—shared their personal journeys.
They commented that hearing fellow practitioners recount their genuine experiences navigating both their everyday lives and significant hardships served as a mirror for them, helping them rediscover a path to look within, break through their current limitations, and elevate their character.
Media Professional: Set Aside Grievances and Apprehensions and Choose To Do the Right Thing

Shen Weitong, who works in the news media, attended the conference with his wife and two children. As fellow practitioners shared their personal experiences, he was deeply moved. He remarked, “For one practitioner, navigating a major conflict with her husband by truly letting go of her feelings of resentment and responding with kindness was an incredibly difficult achievement.”
He candidly admitted that friction is sometimes inevitable within a family: “At times, due to the demands of work, my wife would feel resentful, sensing that the burden of household chores fell entirely on her. I used to feel offended, wondering why she complained when I felt I was already contributing so much.
“Yet, when I put myself in her shoes, I realized she was actually shouldering even more than I was. I need to learn to be more understanding, broaden my perspective, and make better use of my time. I need to strive to do a better job in both my family life and my career.”
He mentioned another practitioner who, while promoting her business, dressed and presented herself with the professional polish of an airline flight attendant. “This actually requires letting go of any concerns about appearance and manner of speech. I saw that this fellow practitioner had absolutely no attachment to personal gain or loss, nor any reservations—she simply wanted to play this role well. I really admire this down-to-earth attitude toward cultivation.”
Another speaker, who works in defense technology research and development, also inspired him greatly. “He is diligent and responsible in his work and excels in scientific research, yet he hasn’t forgotten his mission to save people. He uses his time after work to share the truth online. I think he’s doing a great job.
“I, too, once felt lost in my career and even considered changing paths. By reflecting on his example, I realized that, deep down, I was actually harboring a fear of change and a reluctance to communicate. Although I still have some concerns, I believe that as long as I choose to do the right thing throughout this process, I will certainly find a way forward—and the path will only become smoother as I continue.”
Art Teacher: Set Aside a High-Pressure Approach and Communicate with Sincerity and Kindness
Xu Yijun said that, when teaching and caring for family members, he strives to be more kind and thoughtful. (Minghui.org)
Xu Yijun, an art teacher, said that he was deeply moved by what two young Dafa practitioners had to say: “Despite their tender age, they possess a profound understanding of cultivation—one that they truly put into practice in their daily lives.”
He said that, when his emotions run high and he gets angry, he often forgets to reflect on himself, but the innocent sharing of these young practitioners was like a mirror, “Reminding me that no matter what I encounter, I must always remember to look inward and examine myself.”
He also found the words of a cyclist very enlightening: “Through his cultivation practice, he learned to communicate with his teammates in a kinder and more compassionate way. This made me realize that, in communicating with my students, I often tend to see things from my own perspective and even resort to a high-pressure approach to get them to obey. The speaker’s remarks taught me to let go of my ego, truly put myself in the students’ shoes, and guide them with compassion and kindness.”
Beyond his teaching, this realization has also extended to his family life. Yijun shared that, as his mother has aged, both her memory and hearing have declined, and his tendency to speak too loudly has sometimes caused her distress. He has come to understand that, whether interacting with students or caring for his mother, only by genuinely empathizing with the other person can one resolve underlying tensions and communicate more smoothly and effectively.
Health Consultant: Stepping Out of One’s Comfort Zone and Assuming Responsibility

Liu Jingjing, a health consultant, also referred to what the cyclist practitioner said. “He used to have a strong personality and always thought he was right and held others to strict standards. But after he began to cultivate, he started communicating with his teammates with kindness, which actually yielded unexpectedly positive results.”
Liu Jingjing admitted that the cyclist’s sharing reminded her of her interactions with her mother. “In the past, whenever I saw that my mother hadn’t changed, I would lose my temper and even feel the urge to use a stern tone to snap her out of it. But the cyclist’s insight helped me realize that cultivation is about changing myself, not demanding change from others. Only when we truly elevate ourselves and show kindness can we all improve together as a family.”
Another practitioner’s sharing of overcoming fear and promoting Shen Yun also helped Jingjing recognize her own tendency to avoid challenges. Jingjing admitted that, in the past, whenever her schedule kept her from participating and she asked other practitioners to support the event, she would always feel a sense of relief. “This was actually just me creating an escape route for myself, masking a mindset of procrastination and avoidance.”
She saw her own shortcomings and decided to let go of her attachment to comfort and courageously take responsibility.
Airline Ground Staff: Self-Discipline From Within Is the Key to True Change
Inspired by younger practitioners, Jiang Fengjuan aspires to be more pure and self-disciplined in her daily life and work. (Minghui.org)
Jiang Fengjuan, who works on the ground for an airline, was inspired by a young practitioner who attends Niaosong Arts High School.
Fengjuan said, “That girl represented her dance class in middle school, so she also hoped to perform well in group dances. But after she entered Tong Song and began practicing Falun Dafa, she gradually learned to look inward and to let go of her ego and jealousy. She came to realize that a team’s success is achieved through the contributions of others and that no one is better than anyone else.”
The girl, accustomed to a high-pressure, strict environment, initially struggled to adjust to her new surroundings, Fengjuan explained. “But as her character matured, she realized that it wasn’t that the environment had become more lenient, but rather that she herself needed to change—shifting from external constraints to self-discipline that comes from within. I think this is a major transformation.”
Hearing how that girl, at such a young age, was able to take the initiative to cultivate herself and change from within greatly inspired Fenngjuan. “That kind of self-discipline is a form of motivation that comes from within—no one is telling you what to do; rather, it stems from an inner desire to become better and purer. This is the subtle, gradual influence of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance on a cultivator. Only through genuine and earnest cultivation can one truly transform oneself.”
Faced with the tedious day-to-day ground crew work, Fengjuan hopes to maintain an attitude of continuous improvement and self-discipline, constantly expanding her capacity and walking the path of cultivation with steadfast determination.
