Having Served Three Prison Sentences, Anhui Woman Arrested Again for Practicing Falun Gong

Oct. 29, 2026 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in Anhui Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old woman in Hefei City, Anhui Province, has remained in custody since she was arrested on July 1, 2026, for her faith in Falun Gong.

A food delivery worker videotaped Ms. Wang Kezhen talking to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ongoing persecution of Falun Gong and reported her. The police ransacked her home and put her at the Hefei City Detention Center. She is now facing indictment after the police submitted her case to the local procuratorate.

Ms. Wang, born in March 1964, took up Falun Gong on May 19, 1998. Her diabetes insipidus (a rare disorder that causes increased thirst and frequent urination) soon disappeared. After the CCP ordered the persecution a year later, she held firm to her faith and has been sentenced three times, for a total of 7.5 years.

She went to Beijing in November 1999 to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong and was arrested. She was held in the Feidong Detention Center for 13 days after being taken back to Anhui.

Ms. Wang returned to Beijing to appeal again in March 2000. She was arrested a second time and taken to the Feidong Detention Center. During her seven-week detention, she was beaten for doing the Falun Gong exercises, shocked with electric batons, and forced to kneel. She held a hunger strike to protest and was later released.

Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for a third time in September 2000. She was arrested on Tiananmen Square and taken back to Hefei. This time, she was held in a brainwashing center for over 40 days and subjected to constant beatings and verbal abuse.

Ms. Wang was arrested again on June 30, 2001, for putting up posters about Falun Gong. She escaped from the police station after two days and was forced to live away from home to hide from the police. She went to Beijing on September 22 to appeal for the fourth time and was arrested. She refused to reveal her name and held a hunger strike in the Shunyi Detention Center in Beijing. The guards released her a week later when she was on the verge of death.

Ms. Wang was reported in August 2005 when she went home to visit her child. The police got into her home by climbing through a window on the third floor. She managed to escape.

Ms. Wang’s next arrest was on June 13, 2010, for handing Falun Gong materials to other practitioners. She was sentenced to five years. Because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, she was subjected to beatings, verbal abuse, and electric shocks. The guards also forced her to stand for hours on end and restricted her restroom use. The torture caused her to have dangerously high blood pressure, chest pain, dizziness, and weakness of her limbs.

Ms. Wang was arrested again on February 16, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was released on February 22.

Four months later on June 6, she was arrested with seven other practitioners while they were studying the Falun Gong teachings together. She was detained for eight days and released from Hefei Detention Center on June 14.

While visiting an elderly practitioner, Ms. Wang was arrested yet again on September 3, 2020, and sentenced to one year in prison. When her term expired, the Political and Legal Affairs Committee arranged for her to be taken to a brainwashing center.

On August 3, 2022, less than a year after Ms. Wang was released, she was arrested one more time while visiting a friend. She was released on bail the next day, only to have her case submitted to a local procuratorate in November that year. She appeared in the Shushan District Court on September 6, 2023, and was sentenced to one and a half years on November 2, 2023.
