(Minghui.org) A 52-year-old woman in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province remains detained for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Qu Lihong, an employee of the Shenyang Coal Industry Group Machinery Manufacturing Company, was arrested on the afternoon of February 7, 2026. The arresting officers from the Hushitai Police Station grabbed her hair and slammed her head on the ground, causing multiple swellings.
The Dadong District Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Ms. Qu on March 17. She was initially set to stand trial on August 18, but the Dadong District Court canceled it due to the “complexity of the case.” It is unclear when a new court date would be set.
The police extended Ms. Qu’s detention to December 6. She is still held at the Shenyang City First Detention Center. There are over 30 inmates in her cell, and she struggled to sleep well. She also experienced some heart disease symptoms and was in a poor mental state.
This is not the first time that Ms. Qu has been targeted for her faith. She was previously arrested on July 19, 2012, and sentenced to three years with five years probation on January 17, 2013. During her detention, her employer stopped all of her pay and benefits.
After she was released on March 3, 2013, she was ordered to report to the local justice bureau once every week and attend a study session once every month. She also had to do community service and write thought reports on a regular basis. Her phone was monitored, and she could not go out at will.
Additionally, her workplace removed her from her position after she returned home and only gave her 440 yuan of living stipend every month. They later re-assigned her, an office worker, to do repair jobs in a workshop. Her monthly pay was only a bit over 1,000 yuan, much lower than that when she worked in the office before her 2012 arrest.
