(Minghui.org) Greetings, Master! Greetings, fellow practitioners!
It is not easy for me to stand here today and talk about my cultivation. The journey here was long – and not just because I live 10 hours away from Berlin in northern Germany. This article, which the coordinator asked me to write months ago, was also a challenge for me. For several weeks, I kept trying to get it ready until the repeatedly postponed deadline approached, a date that could no longer be delayed. With this article, I want to bear witness to the fact that the Master’s arrangements are the best, and I want to emphasize how important it is to be aware of our responsibilities.
How I Came to Falun Dafa
When my husband returned home from a seminar abroad in the summer of 2017, I had no idea that our lives would change completely within a week. For three days, there was complete silence in our little house, which is located in the middle of a nature reserve. We used to chat for hours about everything under the sun. Now, there were no walks and no conversations. My husband was engrossed in a blue book. On the third day, I finally snapped one morning when he came into the kitchen holding that blue book. I asked, “What on earth are you reading?”
“The seminar leader recommended this book. It was snatched out of my hands three times while I was there – and now I can finally read it. It’s so fascinating,” he replied.
“All you do is read this book. What is it about?” I asked.
“I can’t explain it to you. I need to read it again,” he said.
I was speechless. Before my husband disappeared with his coffee, he glanced at me and said, “It’s about Falun Dafa.”
I was seething inside. What is Falun Dafa? I sat down at the computer and typed, “Falun Dafa.” Suddenly, as if by magic, a YouTube video opened in which a Chinese man in yellow clothing was practicing some exercises. “Oh, I know this,” I thought. I had done those exact exercises five years earlier. At the time, I was pregnant and going through a difficult period. For some reason, I stopped doing the exercises—but like a boomerang, it had now returned to my life. I immediately stood up and did the movements. It was wonderful. Energy flowed through my body, and the anger toward my husband vanished. Even my resentment about that blue book faded.
When my husband saw me practicing the exercises the next day, he asked in surprise, “What are you doing?”
“I’m practicing the Falun Dafa exercises!” I replied.
“What exercises? I only know this blue book,” my husband said.
“And I didn’t even know there was a book about Falun Dafa until yesterday,” I replied.
And so we put the pieces of the puzzle together. I showed my husband the exercise videos, and in return, he let me read his blue book. It was fascinating. Questions I asked myself my whole life were answered very profoundly in simple words. That was the week my husband and I began cultivating ourselves in Falun Dafa.
When I Learned About the Persecution
In order to learn the exercises correctly, we decided to go to the nearest practice site. We were disappointed to find that it was in Berlin, over 200 km (124 miles) away. Since our village wasn’t connected to the public transportation on weekends, this meant getting up at 4:30 a.m. and walking for two and a half hours with my four-year-old son to the nearest train station, from where we would then travel for another two hours by train. But as crazy as the idea seemed, we knew it was worth the effort.
The next day I woke my son before sunrise. To make good time, we took turns carrying him on our shoulders. How relieved we were when, after two and a half hours, we finally reached the train station, completely out of breath, and continued our journey for another two hours by train. At 10:00 a.m., we arrived at the practice site in Tiergarten in Berlin. An older Chinese practitioner showed us the exercises. I felt all the fatigue drain away; I felt full of energy. Every cell in my body was filled with joy. When a Vietnamese practitioner asked if we wanted to join her at the information booth at the adjacent Brandenburg Gate, we enthusiastically agreed. “Great – even more information about this wonderful meditation practice,” I thought. But what I then learned left me speechless.
When we arrived at the Brandenburg Gate, a huge banner immediately caught my eye. It spoke of organ harvesting, and a reenacted scene illustrated the brutal persecution of practitioners in China. As I stared, rooted to the spot, at the banner, a Chinese practitioner pressed some flyers into my hand and gestured for me to distribute them to passersby. I glanced through them briefly. They, too, dealt with organ harvesting and persecution—but I wanted nothing to do with that. It took me a while to compose myself. Then I handed the flyers back to her and said, “Maybe next time—we have to go now.”
On the journey home, my mind was racing. How could this wonderful cultivation method be so brutally persecuted? After we returned home, I sat down at the computer and went to the Minghui.org website, which a practitioner had recommended. Traditional cultural stories from China, news from around the world, Falun Dafa’s divine power—none of that interested me. I immediately opened the Persecution section and came across an “Open Letter to the People of Shanghai” dated September 28, 2017.
It was about Bai Gendi, a 66-year-old Chinese woman who had died a few months earlier after being unjustly imprisoned. In prison, she was severely tortured. During her four years in solitary confinement, she had no access to a toilet and had to relieve herself in a container. The guards pressured not only her but also her fellow cellmates to force her to renounce Falun Dafa. They cruelly tortured her and even urinated in her food. One day, the practitioner told a prisoner, “If I eat this food, you won’t be punished. The inmates were moved to tears—and so was I.”
This practitioner was innocent and imprisoned, surrounded by criminals who bullied her. Yet, she wanted to prevent these inmates from getting into trouble and put their needs before her own. Where did she get the strength? How could this woman, in such a situation, be so compassionate and tolerant? She wasn’t even angry at those inmates who participated in pressuring her—what a remarkable attitude. “Falun Dafa must be truly extraordinary,” I thought.
During my research, I came across hundreds of similar reports. I couldn’t sleep a wink that night. My thoughts were racing. Just a few hours earlier, I had been the happiest person in the world. I was living a peaceful life with my family, surrounded by nature. My husband and I embarked on the cultivation path together, even making the long journey to Berlin to practice the exercises. I had experienced the beauty of Falun Dafa. But now I sat huddled in my corner at my desk, clutching my freshly brewed peppermint tea tightly, as if it could offer me solace in the face of these horrific stories. Countless practitioners, who carried the same beauty of Falun Dafa within them, were being kept in prisons in China and were tortured. How could this be? Why is no one talking about it? Isn’t all the information publicly available on the website Minghui.org?
That night I realized I had encountered something truly significant. I wondered if I was the only one reading these reports. The more I thought about it, the stronger my resolve grew. I didn’t know how or what I could do. All I knew was, “The whole world must know about Falun Dafa.”
Nine years have passed since then. If someone had told me earlier that I would one day become a journalist, conduct interviews with doctors and professors, and run a publishing house, I certainly would have laughed.
Facing One’s Responsibility
When I began cultivating with my husband, I was overcome with joy. I imagined what it would be like studying the Fa with him every day and practicing the exercises. On the one hand, I found the idea amazing that after 15 years I would still be reading Zhuan Falun at 5:00 a.m. and then practicing the exercises. On the other hand, this feeling gave me security regarding a lasting partnership. The bond with my husband was so strong that I believed not even death could separate us.
However, I was shocked when I learned through Falun Dafa that every practitioner would go their own way after consummation. We are responsible for our own worlds; we would be kings of these worlds, and each of us will return to our own world.
Master Li wrote in “Mission” (Hong Yin IV) that
“…Each of us represents a heavenly Kingdom, and came to this earth for its sakeThere above, all lives look to us, their sovereigns, for hope...”
I was stunned. The thought struck me that after successful cultivation, I would be left alone. My husband would return to his world, and I to mine. I began to weep. A profound sadness welled up inside me, a sadness I had never felt before.
As I examined this feeling of sadness more closely, I realized it didn’t stem from the prospect of one day leaving my husband, but rather from my feeling utterly unequal to this immense responsibility. At the same time, I suddenly sensed the many beings who were either waiting for my return to my world or wishing to ascend to it with me. I felt their confidence that I would successfully fulfill my mission here on Earth. And I felt an enormous pressure weighing on my shoulders – for a mission I had to accomplish.
This pressure intensified when I came across the poem, “Your People Await You” (Hong Yin IV), that
“...I call out to awaken you, spurred by a divine pledgeYou came to this world to learn the Great Way, DafaSo that your Kingdom’s lives may be spared from disasterFor this you became mortal and entered this worldRefuse the Red Beast’s lies and spare yourself harmLearn the truth, for your people await you”
But what was this mission? I grappled with this question for years. The answer, to help Master save living beings, seemed very superficial to me.
Suddenly Becoming a Publisher
That I would one day run a publishing house was never part of my plan. It simply happened that way. When German translation was needed for the English-language Minghui Report: The 20-Year Persecution of Falun Gong in China, I volunteered. At that time, my work at The Epoch Times had already given me a few years of experience in editing texts. But the many accounts of the suffering and pain of the practitioners in the Minghui Report weren’t just texts—they were the fates of fellow practitioners who were humiliated and tortured in China. Their stories haunted me at night as nightmares. I often woke up in a cold sweat, feeling unable to continue translating. But I knew how important this work was.
Shortly after its completion, a revised hardcover edition followed the first edition. Distribution was to be handled by a publisher. Since my work as a journalist and my commitment to human rights were related, I offered my support. In February 2022, I registered Minghui Publishing as a business. The Minghui Report was followed by further publications such as several issues of Minghui International and the book The Path to Our Cosmic Roots, published in November 2025, which contains stories about Western practitioners.
To this day, the Minghui Report (in English and German) remains a powerful tool for speaking with people about the persecution. I have often given this book to interested passersby at information booths, knowing that they would then tell others about the persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). On such occasions, I have often felt a large group of beings gathered in other dimensions, bathed in golden light and then vanishing. I am thankful for Master’s merciful grace and magnificent arrangements that we can help save people through this book.
Experiences at the Information Booth in Zurich
It is also an extraordinary arrangement made by Master that I can stand here today and share my experiences. Participating in the Fa conference last year was already a miracle. When the Swiss coordinator approached me asking if I wanted to come with my husband, I reacted with considerable indignation. At that time, we didn’t have a car, and I had to care for my mother, who required constant care, almost around the clock. I initially dismissed the idea of traveling to Switzerland.
After a few hours, however, a very sincere thought took root in my mind. It was, “Why not? Why shouldn't it be possible for me to participate in the Swiss Fahui with my husband and son? If this idea is already out there, then Master has surely arranged something – I just need to have faith.” And that’s exactly what I did.
Within two days, we found a good and affordable used car and arranged for several days of care for my mother. After a somewhat bumpy search for suitable accommodations, nothing stood in the way of our trip. I was looking forward to our short family vacation. But then things took a different turn.
A few days before the conference, I received an unexpected request from the coordinator: “Could you help out at the information booth in Zurich on Saturday on your way to the conference?” We were astonished, but that’s how cultivation works. It dawned on me that this wouldn’t be a vacation, but a fantastic opportunity to align ourselves with the Fa and increase our xinxing—just as Master had arranged. So we agreed. We felt that saying “no” to this request was not an option.
We set off late Friday evening. My husband drove all night – apart from a few very short breaks, we reached Zurich after about 11 hours – roughly an hour before we met up with local practitioners. I already knew some of them from the Minghui summer camp. My son quickly became friends with a girl he met at camp before.
While the others were still setting up, I stood on a street corner handing out flyers. But it wasn’t that easy. Feelings of shame, shyness, and the fear of rejection held me back. The area was unfamiliar, the people spoke differently, and to top it all off, I was overwhelmed by a feeling of exhaustion. I would have loved to hide away in a café and rest. But then I looked at my husband. Even though he had driven all night, he radiated energy and confidence. With a smile, he approached passersby seemingly effortlessly and handed out the flyers. Why couldn’t I do that?
Looking inward, I recognized my omissions: I harbored resentment—resentment that I had to stand here instead of using my time in Switzerland to rest and recuperate. Didn’t I already have enough on my plate at home? For over a year, I had been caring for my mother, who had suffered a severe stroke in August 2024 and was confined to a wheelchair. The more I reflected on it, the stronger my conviction grew that I deserved a break. Then my gaze fell upon the information booth and the practitioners. I looked at my son and the girl, who also had flyers and were handing them out to passersby with smiles—and then I pulled myself together, pushed aside my resentment and the idea of a relaxing family vacation, and thought: “Master, thanks to your magnificent arrangement, I can stand here in Switzerland, almost 1,000 km from where I live. I am ready. Please send me the people who need to be saved.”
Then I took a deep breath and all my anger vanished. It was just as Master said, “One righteous mind can subdue one hundred evils.” (Lecture Five, Zhuan Falun)
A young couple soon rode by on a moped. When they saw our stand with the large poster about the persecution, they stopped. I approached them and gave them a flyer. I learned that the young man was from Russia and his girlfriend was from the Czech Republic. They both spoke some German and English, so I was able to explain the background of the persecution and Falun Dafa to them. When they heard that I also lived about 1,000 km away in northern Germany, they were very surprised. “It’s unbelievable. What are the chances that the three of us would meet here in Switzerland today? This must be a sign from fate!” the young man said.
I almost burst into tears. I realized that Master was showing me how unique his arrangements are. In other dimensions, karmic connections with the beings we will tell about Falun Dafa have already been made. Had I followed my desire for comfort and to rest in a café, I wouldn’t have met this couple. I thanked Master for this encouragement. But just a minute later, I was put to another test, and my heart literally sank.
A large group of Asian people suddenly approached me from the other side of the street. “There must be about 20 Chinese people,” I thought. There are no Chinese people in my hometown. There aren’t any large foreign tourist groups either. I noticed an inner chatter in my mind. My thought karma provided me with numerous reasons why I would be unsuitable for engaging in conversation with this group. “How are you going to approach them? What will you do if they insult you? You don’t even know how to convince them to resign from the CCP and its two youth organizations—so there’s absolutely no point in telling them about Falun Dafa! And did you just see how contemptuously those two women were whispering about you?” Helplessly, I watched as this mental karma torpedoed and destroyed the self-confidence I had built up just minutes before. Once again, I wished I could disappear into the ground.
To make things worse, some members of the group pointed at our stand and made strange gestures. But then a sincere thought occurred to me: “It’s no coincidence that I see this. If I don’t approach this group, no one else will.” I grabbed a stack of Chinese-language flyers and followed the group, which had gathered about 100 meters from our stand. Some were taking photos, others were standing around chatting, while the rest sat on a bench. Which group should I approach? I decided on the one on the bench. Courageously, but somewhat shyly, I walked towards an older woman. She smiled at me. A weight lifted from my shoulders. Initial contact had been made. But when I tried to hand her my flyer, she waved her hands dismissively, indicating that I should leave. I was confused, but I wasn’t about to give up so easily. After all, others were sitting on the bench. But they also turned away. What should I do?
“Master, I know you sent me these beings. I just need to find the person with whom I have the strongest connection of destiny.” With this mindset, I looked around. Suddenly, I noticed another woman from the same tourist group sitting on a different bench, looking at me. I walked over to her. But she didn’t want my flyer either.
With a slightly annoyed tone, she said, “We’re not Chinese. We’re from Korea!” I apologized and immediately fetched some Korean-language flyers from the information booth. The woman glanced at them and said, “Oh, Falun Dafa,” and then gave me a thumbs-up. Others from the group came over curiously and chatted with her, nodding approvingly. Just a minute later, a tour guide appeared and escorted them to their bus. Had I not spotted this woman, it would have been impossible for me to give these tourists the flyer. Once again, I thanked Master for his assistance.
As I returned to the stand with a feeling of relief, a practitioner asked if I wanted to do exercises one through four. I agreed—it was like a reward for the people I had helped save. I could relax and recharge during the exercises—or so I thought. So I took off my shoes and stood on the mat that had been laid out. But something was strange. I didn’t have a firm footing. It felt like I was standing on a boat. I looked at my feet but realized I was standing on a meditation mat. Really strange. I closed my eyes again and began the exercises. But with every movement, I felt like the ground was shaking beneath me. I constantly had to readjust my balance to avoid wobbling. The second exercise was particularly difficult. It was actually like trying to do the exercise in a boat on rough seas. This feeling of wobbling intensified during the third exercise. I had to keep opening my eyes. When I bent down during the fourth exercise, I almost lost my balance. Nevertheless, I continued with the exercises. After all, I had agreed to do exercises one through four.
When the exercises ended after an hour, I was completely exhausted. My legs were shaking, and all I wanted to do was sit down somewhere. It was therefore very convenient that it was almost noon, time to send forth righteous thoughts. I sat down on the mat—and discovered that there was a small piece of foam underneath the meditation mat, which had caused my unsteady stance when I did the exercises.
Later, as I reflected on this further, I realized that Master had used this situation to show me the importance of steadfastness in cultivation. Without sincere thoughts and the clarity and determination to save living beings, we leave gaps that can be exploited by thought karma or the old forces to cause disturbances. The clearer our alignment, the better we can follow Master’s arrangement to assist him in saving people.
Thank you, Master, for your compassion! Thank you, fellow practitioners!
