(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old woman in Ningyuan County, Hunan Province, looked like someone in her 80s when she completed a two-year prison sentence on July 12, 2025, for practicing Falun Gong. She was emaciated and gaunt, because she had been repeatedly drugged and beaten for upholding her faith.
Ms. Zheng Runfeng’s ordeal stemmed from her arrest on January 19, 2021. She was released on bail two months later after she was found to have severe anemia. She stood trial in July 2021 and was sentenced to two years with a 1,000-yuan fine on September 1 that year. The Yongzhou City Intermediate Court denied her appeal at an unknown time. Prior to her latest sentence, she previously served a four-year prison term (2012 – 2016) also for her faith in Falun Gong.
Due to her health condition, Ms. Zheng was allowed to postpone serving time. She was eventually taken back into custody on September 25, 2023, and put in the Hunan Province Women’s Prison.
The prison guards forced Ms. Zheng to take unknown drugs in increasing doses, causing adverse reactions. She reported this to the prison administration but was reprimanded and verbally abused.
Ms. Zheng later refused to take the drugs. Team lead Li Jun instructed five inmates, including Xu Juan, to pry open her mouth and pour in some liquid drugs. They used so much force that two of her teeth came out. On two other occasions, guard Fan instructed four other inmates, including Liang Xian, to force-feed her the drugs. She almost went into shock those two times.
There was also a time when team captain Tong slapped Ms. Zheng in the face six times and forced her to squat when she refused to take the drugs.
Ms. Zheng was just skin and bones when she was released on July 12, 2025. At 60, she looked decades older. Fortunately, she made a full recovery within two months after resuming the Falun Gong exercises and Fa study.
