(Minghui.org) A 53-year-old woman in Dongying City, Shandong Province, was sentenced to three and a half years in May 2026 for raising awareness of the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of her faith, Falun Gong.
Ms. Qiu Hongmei, a retired worker from Shengli Oil Field’s Xinda Services Company, was arrested on May 13, 2024, while vacationing in Longsheng County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The police there targeted her after receiving a tip that she’d talked to people about Falun Gong.
Ms. Qiu was placed in the Guilin City Second Detention Center in Guangxi. She stood trial at the Guilin City Intermediate Court on December 6, 2024. Her family has been denied visits with her since her arrest, nor were they present at her trial. It is unclear whether they were not notified of the hearing or if they were barred from attending the trial. They only found out about her prison sentence recently, but know nothing else about her prosecution.
Prior to this latest episode of persecution, Ms. Qiu was given two years of forced labor after she was arrested on March 25, 2005. Her daughter was only four at the time and had to live with her grandparents. See the related reports for details of Ms. Qiu’s past persecution, as well as her latest arrest.
