Singapore: Support for Activities to Raise Awareness of 27-Year Persecution of Falun Gong

July 13, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Singapore

(Minghui.org) The long road of peacefully resisting the persecution of Falun Gong in China has gone on for over 20 years, and through it all, Falun Gong practitioners around the world continue to uphold their faith. On the afternoon of July 7, 2026, practitioners in Singapore held activities in Hong Lim Park to mark the 27th year of the persecution in China. They called on people to help stop the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ongoing persecution, including the party’s escalating transnational repression. Later in the event, they commemorated fellow practitioners who were persecuted to death in China.

The day’s activities included exercise demonstrations, an artworks exhibition that exposed the persecution, and display boards and banners about Falun Gong. In the evening, practitioners held a candlelight vigil. Many passersby talked with practitioners and asked for more information about the atrocities taking place in China.

The CCP began a nationwide suppression of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. In China, the regime mobilized the entire state apparatus to carry out a systematic persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Persecution tactics have include brainwashing, monitoring, harassing, illegal detention, torture, and live organ harvesting. More recently, the regime has extended the suppression outside China, and is carrying out a transnational repression through a targeted smear campaign, diplomatic pressure, violent assaults, internet attacks, litigation, bomb threats, and other forms of harassment and interferrence.

People Know Communism Is Dangerous

Visitors from the UK, Switzerland, Kenya, South Africa, Australia, Taiwan, India, Malaysia, China and other countries took in the event that day. When they learned of the CCP’s forced organ harvesting, people were shocked and condemned the ongoing persecution. Some were interested in learning how to practice Falun Gong.

A man from India said he’d just read about Falun Gong on his phone and then he saw practitioners in the park. He felt that it was great timing. A pair of friends from South Africa remarked that the atmosphere in the park was very peaceful and told practitioners about the CCP’s various bad deeds in South Africa. A man from Manchester, UK said this was the second time to see practitioners, and he wanted to gain a more in-depth understanding of what was actually taking place in China. A young Chinese man from Malaysia said he hopes to read Falun Gong’s main book, Zhuan Falun.

Martina from Poland and her two sons stopped and watched the exercise demonstration. They were happy to receive the small lotus flowers offered them. Martina used her phone to record practitioners doing the exercises, and commented that she admired the artworks from the Art of Zhen Shan Ren exhibition. She took photos of many of the paintings.

A painting titled “Organ Harvesting” caught her attention. She read the description on the painting in detail, and was astounded to learn the CCP harvest organs from prisoners of conscience. “I truly did not realize such things were happening,” she said, then explained that because she is from Poland, she understands communist ideology and its dangers.

A family of five from the UK read the display about the China Tribunal. The display presented the tribunal’s independent investigation concerning the CCP’s organ harvesting and crimes against humanity, and its conclusion that the CCP indeed engaged in and continues to engage in organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience. A practitioner recounted details about the organ harvesting and expressed sincere gratitude for the fair judgment made by the China Tribunal. The family said they were moved, and expressed deep sympathy for victims of the persecution.

Many Singapore residents also talked with practitioners and asked about the persecution in China. Not only did they express concern about the human rights issues, they also asked about the health benefits of practicing Falun Gong. Kiat, a local resident, said it was the first time he learned that Falun Gong is a legally registered group in Singapore. A practitioner told him the Singapore Falun Dafa Association was established 30 years ago, and that Falun Gong is practiced in all parts of the world.

The practitioner then talked her own cultivation experiences, how her temper improved and her relationships with people also improved after she began practicing. Seeing Kiat’s interest, she showed him the five Falun Gong exercises and suggested he sign up for a free introductory class. The practitioner added that he can also learn the exercises online.

Chinese Tourist: The CCP Is Afraid of Good People

Many people from China stopped to talk, and decided to quit the CCP. Some said they would tell their friends about withdrawing from the CCP.

Wen from China said this was the first time he’d vacationed in Singapore, and he finally saw Falun Gong practitioners holding outdoor activities. For years, he has circumvented the CCP’s internet firewall and he has been able to read reports by media outside China. Two years ago, he read Zhuan Falun online. But today was the first time he saw Falun Gong practitioners.

He was thrilled and had a long conversation with them. He agreed to withdraw his membership in the Young Pioneers and the Communist Youth League (the CCP’s two youth affiliates), hoping that this would bring him blessings in the currently troubling situation in China.

When asked his thoughts on the persecution of Falun Gong, Wen said, “As long as you go out to distribute information, you will be caught by surveillance cameras and then severely tortured. They are merciless. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is a very high standard; what is wrong with Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance? This is the most basic universal value.

“The CCP is utterly rotten. It doesn’t want anyone to be good, even if you go out to stop disasters, or help poor people, they forbid such deeds. Since its founding in 1949, it has destroyed many people and good things.”

Wen also mentioned that he had long seen through the lies of the CCP: “I saw the ‘Tiananmen Self immolation’ report fabricated by the CCP to vilify Falun Gong. I saw [Falun Gong] parades in some places in the US, and all of them have a big influence, so the CCP is scared. Furthermore, governments in so many countries agree that Falun Gong teaches one to be good. If Falun Gong is bad, why would so many countries allow people to practice it? Only the CCP forbids it. Don’t tell me other countries cannot tell good from bad!”

When asked his thoughts about Zhuan Falun, Wen said, “I believe in principles like karma and improving one’s character as written in the book.” He added that he could feel practitioners’ sincerity and kindness.

Candlelight Vigil

As dusk settled, practitioners held a candlelight vigil to remember the thousands of practitioners who have lost their lives as a direct result of the persecution. Over the 27 years of relentless suppression, candlelight vigils continue to be held every year to commemorate the lives of practitioners who held onto their conviction against insurmountable odds.

The flickering candlelight illuminates hope: practitioners have faith that the time is near for the darkness to dissipate and for light to return to the world.
