(Minghui.org) A married couple in Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province have been subjected to constant harassment by the local authorities after serving four years for practicing Falun Gong in June 2025.

A staffer surnamed Yao from the Fanjiatun Town Judicial Bureau showed up at Ms. Ai Cuijie’s home numerous times. He photographed against her will and ordered her to sign and fingerprint various documents. On June 11 (year unknown, either 2025 or 2026), an officer from the Fanjiatun Town Police Station came and recorded her voice, collected her fingerprints and toe-prints, measured her height and weight. He even ordered her to lick a an instrument to collect her saliva.

One week later, the village head called Ms. Ai and demanded the ID numbers of her, her husband, Mr. Ding Luyi, and their son. She refused to comply.

Arrests

Mr. Ding and Ms. Ai were driving on June 15, 2021, when they noticed a black jeep following them closely. They pulled over to make room for the jeep to pass them. The jeep stopped in front of their car instead. Two men emerged. One of them walked over to the driver’s side and another to the passenger’s side.

One man claimed that they were lost and their cell phone GPS was not working. He asked Mr. Ding to help him check his phone. Mr. Ding said he and his wife also got lost and were still trying to figure out the correct route to their destination.

That man insisted that Mr. Ding look at his phone. Mr. Ding rolled down the car window, only to see the man trying to grab his car key. After the unsuccessful attempt, the man identified himself as an officer from the Lishu County Domestic Security Office. Mr. Ding demanded to see his police ID. He produced his ID, but then claimed that he had dropped his phone into Mr. Ding’s car.

Mr. Ding opened the door and got out. He tried to run away, but the officer knocked down and started punching him. He and his wife were then pushed into the jeep, which he noticed had no license plate.

Another group of officers raided the couple’s home around the same time and confiscated their laptops, printer, officer supplies, and Falun Gong informational materials.

Captain Wang Mingshan interrogated the couple at the Lishu County Domestic Security Office. He bragged that he had ordered the arrests of other practitioners in the past but never received any karmic retribution. He questioned if the couple had money at home and who the other practitioners were that they carpooled with to distribute Falun Gong materials.

Mr. Ding was taken to the Lishu County Detention Center the next day. The officer who took him there asked the detention center guards to “fix” him because he “was not behaving.” The guards didn’t give him enough food and interrupted his sleep. They also forced him to do night duty.

Mr. Ding’s elderly mother, who had mobility issues, traveled nearly 60 miles to the Lishu County Domestic Security Office on June 28, 2021. She knelt on the ground and begged the officers to release her son and daughter-in-law. Wang refused to meet with her in person and told her over the phone that the couple had “broken the law” and that they would not be allowed to receive any family visits or clothing.

Abused While Serving 4 Years in Prison

Mr. Ding was sentenced to four years in late 2021. His wife also received four years a few months later.

As soon as he was transferred to the Gongzhuling Prison, Mr. Ding was met with multiple guards and armed police officers with electric batons in their hands. They brought him to a second-floor cell in the ninth division to change into the prison uniform. They measured his height and weight, while verbally abusing him throughout the admission process.

Liu Dapeng and Feng Kuiwen, two former practitioners who quit the practice in the prison, were in charge of brainwashing Mr. Ding and other practitioners in “small group lectures.”

In addition to forcing the practitioners to watch videos slandering Falun Gong and write weekly thought reports, they also ordered them to sign statements to renounce and denounce Falun Gong. Those who refused were subjected to various forms of torture, including beatings, electric shocks and having salt sprinkled on the wounds, and sitting on a small stool from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. They were allowed only two restroom breaks per day, ten minutes to eat meals with reduced portions, stand facing a wall for long periods, and woken up every ten minutes each night.

Those deemed less “stubborn” in upholding their faith were allowed to attend “bigger group lectures” with about 50 practitioners. They still had to write thought reports every month.

Mr. Ding was later forced to do hard labor every day. His wife also endured brutal abuse while serving time at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison. The tactics used against her and other jailed practitioners were similar to those her husband experienced.

Ms. Ai was later also made to do hard labor for over ten hours a day. The tasks mainly involved making false eyelashes and duvet covers. Whenever she failed to meet the quota, she had to transcribe the prison rules 50-100 times.
