(Minghui.org) A 59-year-old woman in Linqing City, Shandong Province, stood trial on July 6, 2026, for her faith in Falun Gong.
The ordeal of Ms. Cui Yuling, a former employee of the Linqing City state-owned cotton mill, stemmed from her arrest on October 30, 2015. While she was released on bail in March 2016 after five months of detention, the police never stopped seeking her prosecution.
The harassment of Ms. Cui and her family, including her daughter and granddaughter, became more frequent in April 2025, with the police claiming that her bail condition from the 2015 arrest was still in effect.
Ms. Cui was arrested on the evening of January 19, 2026, by officers from the Linqing City Domestic Security Office. She was taken to the Liaocheng City Detention Center and issued a formal arrest warrant on February 12. Her family and lawyer went to the Linqing City Police Department on February 27 to demand her release, but to no avail.
The police submitted Ms. Cui’s case to the Linqing City Procuratorate. Prosecutor Long Jing indicted her on May 13, 2026.
Ms. Cui appeared in the Linqing City Court on July 6, 2026. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her. Her daughter also defended her mother’s innocence as a non-lawyer family defender. Ms. Cui also insisted that she only practiced Falun Gong to be a good person, and didn’t violate any law for upholding her faith.
Prosecutor Kong refused to exhibit any prosecution evidence, but said that the police “targeted Cui Yuling again because she had been on bail since 2015.”
The judge adjourned the hearing without issuing a verdict.
Dire Situation in the Detention Center
Ms. Cui’s lawyer visited her days before the hearing. She said that she wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone at the detention center, and two inmates watched her around the clock. If she was found talking to someone, guard Yue Yan would force her and the two inmates to stand for hours. She also had trouble falling asleep at night, and she was often short of breath, feeling a tightness in her chest, and had fecal incontinence. Her family requested that the detention center take her to the hospital for a checkup, but the detention center director said no, claiming that she was “perfectly healthy.”
When Ms. Cui appeared in court, she was emaciated and dispirited. The bailiff also kept her handcuffed and shackled during the entire hearing. Her family is worried about her health and well-being.
