(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners in three cities in Taiwan: Yunling, Chiayi, and Tainan (Yun-Chia-Nan region), held candlelight memorials on July 17-19, 2026, to commemorate Falun Gong practitioners who died under persecution by the Chinese Communist Party for upholding their faith, and called on all sectors of society to pay attention to this systematic persecution, which has persisted for 27 years.

The rallies were held at Tainan Park, Chiang Kai-shek Park, and the plaza in front of the Huwei Puppet Museum, respectively.

Several elected officials from the Yun-Chia-Nan region, along with representatives from governmental agencies, community leaders, and members of the public, sat with Falun Gong practitioners and held lit candles to pay their respects together, symbolizing their firm stance in upholding the universal values of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

“One Sentence, One Light” Event in Tainan

The anti-persecution campaign in Tainan, themed “One Sentence, One Light,” invited people from all walks of life to participate by writing an encouraging message on a card, which people enthusiastically supported. Prominent scholars, elected officials, and local residents alike wrote down their blessings and hopes for an end to the persecution and for the protection of religious freedom. A wall at the event was covered with cards of support:

“The world needs Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. Your perseverance brings hope to the world.”

“Your courage is inspiring, and your kindness is touching.”

“The night will eventually pass. May peace and light always be with you.”

Ms. Lin, a representative of Falun Gong practitioners in Tainan, said that about 300 cards had been posted on the wall, and that nearly 150 additional comments had been left online. She said, “Some offered blessings, while others offered encouragement. These sincere words represent acts of kindness. With just a few words, they expressed their refusal to remain silent and their support for Falun Gong’s steadfast commitment to its beliefs.”

At Chiang Kai-shek in Chiayi City, a “Light of Kindness Illuminates the World” wall was set up next to a photo exhibit. After viewing the photos, many parents wrote supportive cards alongside their children. One child wrote, “I hope the world is filled with Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and that I can help more people.”

Support From Legislator Liu Chien-kuo

Legislator Liu Chien-kuo participates in Falun Gong’s candlelight rally annually. He said he admires Falun Gong practitioners’ spirit of peacefully resisting persecution and upholding their faith.

Legislator Liu Chien-kuo, who attends the Falun Gong candlelight vigil protesting the persecution every year, said that 27 years is no short period for a person, but for those who remain steadfast in their beliefs, it has been a very arduous journey. He admires Falun Gong practitioners for their perseverance in peacefully and rationally opposing the persecution and spreading the truth, thereby enabling the world to see the evil and brutality of the Chinese Communist Party.

He emphasized that freedom of belief is one of humanity’s most fundamental rights, and that Falun Gong practitioners, by upholding their beliefs, will ultimately receive divine assistance. He has also continued to take concrete actions in the Legislative Yuan to promote institutional reforms, including measures to prevent forced organ harvesting and to safeguard universal values such as freedom and human rights. He further stated that the Chinese Communist Party’s long arm of cross-border repression has already reached Taiwan, and urged the people of Taiwan to clearly recognize the evil nature of the CCP.

Cheng Bang-chen, chairman of the Taiwan Literature National Park Promotion Association, said, “No matter how long the night, dawn will eventually break.” He urged everyone to always remain kind, “because we never know how many people find hope in your kindness and emerge from the darkness because of the light you shine.”

He emphasized that supporting Falun Gong practitioners “serves as a spiritual force of human civilization that is both profound and far-reaching.” He believes everyone should ask themselves, “What have I done for humanity? What have I done for the next generation? Between the light and the darkness of this world, which side do I choose to stand on? Have I made the right choice? Have I done the right thing?”

Support From Yuanchang Town Mayor

Li Ming-ming, the mayor of Yuanchang Town, who formerly worked as a nurse, said that when she first learned of the CCP’s atrocity of forced organ harvesting, she was deeply shocked. She realized the cruelty of the persecution and the immense difficulty practitioners have faced with persisting in their resistance to it for the past 27 years.

Li Ming-ming also feels that the universal values of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance serve as a noble standard for shaping the character of the next generation. She believes that given the ongoing turmoil in today’s international community, if everyone followed Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, discerned right from wrong, and harbored benevolent intentions, the world would progress toward peace.

Support From Elected Officials

Many elected officials from various regions attended the local candlelight vigil to express their support for Falun Gong practitioners and to join them in mourning the practitioners who were persecuted to death by the CCP.

Tainan City Councilor Chu Cheng-Hsuan stated that what the CCP fears most is people thinking for themselves. Falun Gong practitioners awaken people’s consciences by clarifying the truth and bringing hope to everyone.

Tainan City Councilor Tsai Hsiao-Wei emphasized that there was no protest here, only a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere—the power of goodness will spread far and wide.

Tainan City Councilor Shen Chen-tung also said that the words Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance will be the most valuable message of love in the world.

Chiayi City Councilor Fu Ta-wei stated that Falun Gong is rooted in the ethics and morality of traditional Chinese culture, and adheres to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, enabling any issue to be resolved peacefully.

Chiayi City Councilor Chen Chia-ping also noted that society can continue to progress only if it embraces the spirit of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Yunlin County Councilor Chiang Wen-teng has long been concerned about the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong. He stated that practitioners are lifelong friends to everyone, and that he will work alongside them to end the persecution.

County Councilor Lin Wen-pin also mentioned that he had previously helped arrange the screening of the documentary State Owned Organs, which exposes the CCP’s persecution. The two councilors are collaborating to promote local legislation to prevent the CCP’s influence from extending into Taiwan.

Kuo Chung-hsin, section chief of the Civil Affairs Department, attended the event and extended greetings on behalf of Chiayi City Mayor Huang Min-hui. He noted that the Falun Dafa Association has long been dedicated to promoting physical and mental well-being, and through various exchanges has helped people experience the power of kindness. This contribution to society has infused the city with positive energy. He expressed his hope to work with Falun Gong practitioners to continue sowing the seeds of kindness and to illuminate Taiwan with benevolent thoughts.

Yunlin Resident Feels Falun Gong is Protecting Us

Local resident Ms. Tsai and her son attended the candlelight vigil in Yunlin for the first time. She said that while many people remain silent out of fear of the CCP’s vicious persecution, there is a group like Falun Gong that bravely stands up for justice, and that they have deeply moved her. She said, “It is they (Falun Gong practitioners) who are protecting us; we are the ones being protected.” Her heart is filled with gratitude. Not only does she spread the truth herself, but she also encourages everyone to learn more about Falun Gong.
