(Minghui.org) A 53-year-old woman in Changchun City, Jilin Province was arrested on July 29, 2026, for her faith in Falun Gong. She remains at the Changchun City Detention Center.
Ms. Wang Hongyan took up Falun Gong in 1996 and soon recovered from various ailments, including a heart condition, stomach issues, hydronephrosis, cholecystitis, gynecological diseases, and blood disorders. After the Chinese Community Party launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999, she held firm to her faith and was previously arrested several more times while still living in Shulan City, Jilin Province.
Ms. Wang was arrested on March 3, 2007 and taken to the Shulan City Domestic Security Office. The police beat her savagely. Officer Li Jiazhe tried to squeeze chili water into her nose, and the water splashed into her eyes, which immediately became blood-shot. She screamed in pain.
Ms. Wang was later transferred to the Shulan City Detention Center. On March 27, 2007, she was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Labor Camp (also known as the Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp) to serve a 1.5-year term.
The labor camp guards kicked and punched Ms. Wang when she refused to have her pictures taken. They also shocked her on the face, ears, neck, and other sensitive areas with electric batons. Her term was extended by one month after she tried to stop the police from torturing her and other detained Falun Gong practitioners.
Officers from the Ping’an Town Police Station broke into Ms. Wang’s home on March 25, 2009. They didn’t find any “evidence” against her and beat her savagely. They next took her to the Shulan City Detention Center. She went on a hunger strike in protest.
The police attempted to get Ms. Wang admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Labor Camp again, but failed. They then had to send her home. She had lost a significant amount of weight by then.
Ms. Wang was arrested again in June 2011 and put in the Jilin City Detention Center. She went on a hunger strike for over 100 days. The guards force-fed her two or three times each day. They also tied her up, drew her blood frequently and injected her with toxic drugs on three occasions. The third time she was given the toxic injections, she felt a freezing sensation rapidly spreading from her extremities; wherever it reached, all sensation vanished. Within minutes, the cold had crept up to her chest, leaving her gasping for air. Her breathing became faint and shallow. She lost the ability to speak, her tongue stiffened, and her eyes rolled back into her head.
To make her suffer even more, the guards forced Ms. Wang to sleep on a mattress soaked with water. She was also made to sit on the cement floor for 4-5 hours every day for almost a whole month.
Ms. Wang was carried into the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on a gurney in October 2011 to serve an unknown term. The guards there subjected her to various forms of abuse, including restraining her on a bare board and opening the window to freeze her during cold weather. She felt as if she was pricked by numerous needles.
