(Minghui.org) A 77-year-old woman in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, was admitted to prison around mid-May 2026 to serve a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
It is unclear whether Ms. Wang Hongfen’s wrongful conviction had anything to do with her earlier arrest on February 28, 2022, also for practicing Falun Gong. She was released on bail days later following that 2022 arrest. There was no other report about her later arrests except for the one in mid-May 2026.
Minghui.org confirmed that Ms. Wang was sentenced to three years by the Nanming District Court in September 2025. She was initially allowed to serve time at home, but because she refused to sign the pertinent paperwork, the court decided to put her in jail.
Ms. Wang’s family and friends lost contact with her in mid-May 2026. They learned from a police officer in June 2026 that she had been admitted to an unknown prison.
Ms. Wang, a former employee of the Guiyang Refractory Materials Factory, developed trigeminal neuralgia (a chronic pain disorder that affects one’s face) around 2000, shortly after her college age daughter died in a car accident. She began to practice Falun Gong in 2011 and soon regained her health. She also had more energy to care for her husband, who had Parkinson’s disease. Grateful for the benefits she received, she used her spare time to raise awareness about the persecution, only to be repeatedly targeted.
Ms. Wang was arrested on November 12, 2014, for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was held in the Lannigou Brainwashing Center and the Xiaohe Drug Rehab Center for a total of one month before she was released on December 12.
Ms. Wang was arrested again on January 5, 2018, also for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked and she was released two hours later.
Ms. Wang talked to an elementary school student on August 16, 2018, and was reported by his parent. The police identified her by pouring over the surveillance camera footage and arrested her at home around 10 p.m. She was held at the Yunyan District Detention Center for nine days. Huang Yong, the Political and Legal Affairs Committee secretary, ordered the police and residential committee staffers to harass her for nine months. They cut off her power supply three times during the time.
Ms. Wang’s next arrest was on May 21, 2019, still for talking to people about the persecution. Officers Fu Haitao and Yang Xiaomi of the Babaao Police Station raided her home and confiscated her computer and Falun Gong books. She was held at the Baiyun District Lockup for 15 days. After she was released on June 5, she contacted Huang and tried to clarify the facts to him. He refused to listen and ordered her to report to the police station or residential committee every month. He threatened to arrest and sentence her if she didn’t comply.
Ms. Wang was again targeted in the “Zero Out” harassment campaign in 2020. She was forced to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She was detained for one day and harassed many times after she was released.
While distributing Falun Gong informational materials, Ms. Wang and another practitioner, Ms. Guo Yongfeng, 70, were arrested on February 28, 2022, after they were reported to the police. Ms. Wang was released on bail on March 2, 2022; Ms. Guo was held at the Sanjiang Detention Center and was later sentenced to three years.
