(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported that Ms. Wang Xiuqin wrote home around June 2026 while serving a two-year-and-five-month term for her faith in Falun Gong. The 84-year-old resident of Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, recently wrote another letter home and provided more details about her persecution.
Quick Recap of Ms. Wang’s Case
Ms. Wang was initially arrested on February 12, 2025. Due to her high blood pressure, she was released on house arrest. The police broke into her home on July 14, 2025, and took her to the hospital for a physical exam. She was admitted to the Fuzhou City Second Detention Center three days later. She was tried by the Minqing County Court on October 9, 2025, and sentenced to two years and five months with a 5,000-yuan fine in November 2025. She appealed to the Fuzhou City Intermediate Court but lost.
Ms. Wang was transferred to the Second Division of Fujian Province Women’s Prison on January 20, 2026. Although the prison admission notice stated that her family could visit her on the 16th of every month, her family hasn’t been allowed to visit her even once.
Ms. Wang’s incapacitated husband, in his 90s, relied on her for care. Her imprisonment has left the family in a difficult situation.
New Details Revealed in Second Letter Home
Ms. Wang’s family filed an appeal on her behalf after she was convicted in November 2025. Since they were not allowed to visit her at the Fuzhou City Second Detention Center, they entrusted the court-appointed lawyer to meet with her.
“The lawyer asked me to sign several pages of paperwork, without allowing me to read them. I thought the lawyer was hired by my family and would defend my innocence, only to see my appeal denied. I realized the lawyer didn’t understand what Falun Gong is and I do not blame him,” wrote Ms. Wang in her second letter to her family.
Her son wrote a letter for the lawyer to pass to her, but the lawyer said there was no time for her to read it during the ten-minute meeting. The lawyer only relayed the content of her son’s letter, which stated that her husband had taken a fall.
What Ms. Wang didn’t know at the time of the meeting with her lawyer was that her children had to send her husband to a seniors’ hospital after a fall as they couldn’t ensure his safety at home. They are paying hospital costs of around 8,000 yuan a month.
Ms. Wang asked whether the Minqing County Procuratorate and the Minqing County Court had jurisdiction over her case. She wrote, “My household registration has been in Cangshan District, Fuzhou City, since 1983 when I joined my husband to live in the Yiyuan Community belonging to the Fujian Normal University.
“I was held in the new-inmates team between January 20 and March 18, 2026. One day an official from the Minqing County Court came to the prison asking if I had any house, car, or bank account in my name. I am a housewife and have never worked. I have no pension, savings, or car. My husband owns our house.”
It is unclear whether the court has attempted to garnish money from Ms. Wang’s husband’s pension or seize his house to cover her 5,000-yuan court fine.
