(Minghui.org) A 63-year-old man in Huludao City, Liaoning Province was admitted to the Jinzhou Prison on July 28, 2026, to serve a 3.5-year term for his faith in Falun Gong. His family was scheduled to visit him on August 24.
Mr. Gao Zuokui credits Falun Gong with helping him quit gambling and enabling him to recover from heart and stomach diseases. His wrongful conviction stemmed from his arrest on the night of March 17, 2022, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Gao was released on bail. He later moved from Gangtun Town (where his household registration is) to downtown Huludao City to do odd jobs. The police couldn’t locate him in Gangtun Town and put him on the wanted list.
Mr. Gao was eventually arrested at work on October 22, 2025. He was put in the Huludao City Detention Center. The police submitted his case to the Lianshan District Procuratorate on November 6, and a formal arrest warrant was issued one week later.
Prosecutor Long Dan and his assistant Liu Xiaohan indicted Mr. Gao and forwarded the case to the Lianshan District Court on January 5, 2026.
Mr. Gao stood trial on February 3 and was sentenced to three and a half years with a 10,000-yuan fine on March 27. Presiding judge Zhang Guanzhong, judges Li Hanmo and Gao Jinxing, assistant Sun Yao, and clerk Zhou Chuqi signed the verdict.
Mr. Gao Zuokui’s family filed an appeal for him, and the Huludao City Intermediate Court ruled on June 10, 2026, to uphold the original verdict. Presiding judge Wang Heng, judges Ji Tianqi and Liu Xiaotang, assistant Yang Shuo, and clerk Liu Shihui signed the appeals ruling.
Mr. Gao filed a motion to reconsider his case with the Huludao City Intermediate Court. The motion was docketed on June 26, 2026, with judge Li Hengshuo assigned to the case, which is still pending at the time of writing.
Mr. Gao was admitted to the eighth division of the Jinzhou Prison on July 28, 2026. His family booked a visit with him for August 24.
Mr. Gao was previously given a 15-month prison term in September 2015, also for practicing Falun Gong.
