(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners held activities in Montreal’s Chinatown and Place d’Armes on July 19, 2026, to mark the 27th anniversary of protesting the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution. They demonstrated the exercises and held a candlelight vigil. People read the display boards and talked with practitioners to learn more about Falun Gong and the CCP’s persecution. Many expressed their support and encouraged practitioners in their efforts to bring about an end to the atrocities in China.

Sean Lu, a young Chinese-American accountant in New York, was vacationing in Montreal with a friend. They both signed a petition calling for an end to the persecution.

Sean said he immigrated to the US when he was young and knew about the persecution of Falun Gong when he lived in China. He agrees with Falun Gong’s principles, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and said, “It’s wrong for the CCP to persecute you. I fully agree with the values of Falun Gong.”

Another Chinese man said the CCP has done so many wrong deeds so he was happy to see practitioners holding the event. He was pleased to accept a small origami lotus flower, and hung it on his cane.

People Condemn the Persecution

Shant stopped to find out more about the candlelight vigil, and after he learned about Falun Gong and the persecution, he said, “What you are doing is meaningful. I know Chinese culture and tradition. But this is the first time I’ve heard about Falun Gong. I believe this [vigil] will have a positive impact.”

He said he and his family talk about the importance of having positive values, so when he saw practitioners demonstrating the exercises, he felt that their state of calmness, tranquility, and positivity embodies such values. He said he would tell his family about Falun Gong.

Ben, who attends Concordia University in Montreal, commended Falun Gong’s principles: “These are wonderful values, and I support them. This [Falun Gong] is beneficial for both physical and mental health—it is good for everyone.” He said he heard of the CCP’s state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting and hopes the CCP regime collapses soon so such horrible things end. He added that he hopes Chinese people can have freedom.

Craig, from the US state of Georgia, stopped to learn about Falun Gong. He said the communist regime brought immense suffering to the Chinese people and that he felt sad for the practitioners who are persecuted. He was moved by the candlelight vigil and said it was a good way to protest.

Thomas, a federal employee from Ottawa, took photos of the candlelight vigil. After learning it was held to commemorate practitioners who died due to the CCP’s persecution, he said the persecution was horrible. He also said that many people knew the CCP oppresses Chinese people, and he commended practitioners’ efforts to expose the persecution.

Mandira asked about local practice sites and said she’s interested in learning more about Falun Gong. (Minghui.org)

Mandira from Montreal said she didn’t know much about China so she was happy to talk with practitioners and learn about the predicament they and Chinese people face under the CCP’s persecution.

She commended Falun Gong’s principles and said, “Nowadays, people truly need kindness and to embrace diverse ideas, cultures, and nations.” She asked about the practice site in Montreal and said she hoped to learn more about Falun Gong.
