(Minghui.org) A 32-year-old woman in Hebi City, Henan Province, was sentenced to one year and three months and was fined 2,000 yuan on August 25, 2026, because she practices Falun Gong.
Arrest
Ms. Su Li, who has a four-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, was arrested on May 22, 2025, one week after she was reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. The police tracked her mother-in-law’s home address through her e-bike license plate (which was registered to the older woman’s home).
Under pressure, Ms. Su’s mother-in-law revealed her home address. The police raided her home and confiscated her printer, Falun Gong books, and informational materials.
Ms. Su went into hiding before the police arrived at her home. They used GPS tracking to locate her phone and eventually captured her in Wuhan (the capital city of Hubei Province) on May 22.
Held in Brainwashing Center and Family Pressured
Ms. Su was extradited to Hebi City and put in a brainwashing center. Her husband was forced to take their two young children to the center, and try to persuade her to renounce Falun Gong. Her mother was also summoned there to “work on her.” Her mother insisted that by practicing Falun Gong, practitioners do not break any laws.
A vice mayor of Hebi City, surnamed Zhang, went to the brainwashing center and threatened Ms. Su’s mother and husband. He warned them and said that if they dared to expose Ms. Su’s arrest to the outside world, they would be arrested.
Harassed While Out on Bail
Ms. Su was later released on bail. Officers from the Gucheng Police Station harassed her at home and photographed her almost every day. Every time she stepped out of her home, she was followed.
The police also pressured her husband and mother-in-law to stop Ms. Su from doing the Falun Gong exercises. Even her conversations with neighbors were reported to the police.
In October 2025, the police discovered that a report that they had persecuted Ms. Su was published on Minghui.org. They questioned her as to who did this and threatened to arrest her mother. Her husband was out of town doing odd jobs, and she struggled to care for their two children. Her mother-in-law’s mother, who was bedridden, also moved in with them.
Ms. Su felt on edge and was about to have a mental collapse. The police kept harassing her and threatened to take her back into custody. She became mentally unstable. Her husband returned home around November 10, 2025, and sent her to a psychiatric hospital.
The police called her attending physician and complained about Ms. Su exposing their persecution of her online. After she was discharged on January 13, 2026, they warned her mother-in-law to not allow her to go out.
Vice mayor Zhang also started an investigation to hunt down the person who published the article on Minghui.org.
Arrested Again and Put on Trial
The police ordered Ms. Su to write a statement to admit guilt in April 2026. They said her bail period was about to expire and threatened to take her back into custody. They did arrest her again on May 11, 2026, and put her in the Hebi City Detention Center.
The Economic Development Zone Police Department submitted her case to the Shancheng District Procuratorate, which indicted her and forwarded her case to the Shancheng District Court.
Ms. Su stood trial on August 25, 2026. She testified in her own defense, and her lawyer also entered a not-guilty plea for her.
A guilty verdict was issued on August 31, 2026, and bore the signatures of presiding judge Zhang Pei, assistant judges Zhang Xiao and Yang Limin, clerk Huo Jingnan, and prosecutor Xu Dawei.
Ms. Su is now appealing the verdict.
