(Minghui.org) A woman in Dalian City, Liaoning Province is set to complete a 1.5-year prison term on September 6, 2026, for her faith in Falun Gong, yet her family was notified days prior that she would be handed over to agents from her local justice bureau instead of being allowed to go home.
Ms. Meng Xianfang isn’t the first Falun Gong practitioner who faces further persecution after serving wrongful sentences for upholding their faith. The family of Ms. Zhang Chuanwen, another practitioner in Liaoning, received similar notice prior to her release on June 5, 2026, from the same Liaoning Province Women’s Prison.
Many of the practitioners who were handed over to justice bureau agents or local government officials were pressed to write statements to renounce Falun Gong. The authorities continued to monitor their daily lives after they were eventually allowed to return home and sometimes harassed them in person or via phone calls.
Ms. Meng was arrested on March 2, 2025, and sentenced to one and a half years on September 2, 2025. Her appeal was rejected by the Dalian City Intermediate Court on December 25, 2025, and she was admitted to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on April 20, 2026.
On August 31, 2026, Ms. Meng’s brother, Mr. Meng Xianqi, received a call from a prison guard ordering him to send warmer clothes to her. The guard warned him not to pick her up on her scheduled release date of September 6 because she would be handed over to agents from the Xinghaiwan Justice Bureau. The guard ordered him to contact the bureau regarding Ms. Meng’s future arrangements.
Mr. Meng questioned the guard about this requirement. The guard responded that it was a new policy that had become effective earlier this year. The guard added that even if Mr. Meng went to the prison, Ms. Meng would not be allowed to leave with him but rather with agents from the justice bureau.
