On the afternoon of March 14, 2001, Freedom House, a prestigious human rights organization co-founded by Eleanor Roosevelt 60 years ago, held an award ceremony at the conference hall of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee to honor Teacher Li Hongzhi and the Falun Dafa Association, along with four other groups, as "defenders of religious rights".

WASHINGTON -- A United States human rights organization has given China' Falun Gong group a religious freedom award.
Falun Gong won the Freedom House International Religious Award, as "defenders of religious rights", along with several other Chinese religious groups and independence movements.
