(Clearwisdom.net) Before President Obama left on his trip to China, the website http://www.consciencefoundation.org/ started a petition, "Mr. President, Do Not Let Obama's Dream Die in Your Hands," urging him to take a firm stand on human rights issues, to reaffirm to the world the core values of the United States of America and its dedication to those values.
Many people from all over the world signed the petition, expressing their concerns about the human right issue in China. One signer said: "Please don't keep silence because of the economic interest with China. Please use your conscience to help to stop Chinese Communist government's crime against humanity. People around the whole world will admire you for making the right choice between the money and the conscience."
The followings are words from some signers:
Jenn Fisher, U.S.A.
Please don't keep silence because of the economic interest with China. Please use your conscience to help to stop Chinese Communist government's crimes against humanity. People around the whole world will admire you for making the right choice between the money and the conscience.
Donna Kerbel, U.S.A.
Chinese citizens deserve the same safety we have here. China is a great power. A nation that does not respect the basic human rights of its citizens will only fall. We in this country from the abolishment of slavery to women getting the right to vote are a great example of the potential for CHANGE. Let them know we are not turning a blind eye. Let them know we see and we don't like what we see. Thank you Mr. President.
Jay B. Gaskill, California, U.S.A.
There is no minority group more deserving of our support, when unjustly oppressed, than a peaceful religion seeking only to be left alone to pursue its spiritual quest. The Chinese government is unreasonably frightened of the Falun Gong, because the movement is spontaneous and uncontrolled. That is pathological paranoia. JBG
Eddie Konczal, New Jersey, U.S.A.
China is a country that devalues human rights, has a policy of forced abortions, cruelly culls pet dogs, and harvests the organs of peaceful Falun Gong protestors. We have let China off the hook for its human rights violations far too long. Please take a hard line against China and its egregious policies.
P.H.M. Verbeek, Netherlands
Human rights are the fundamental building blocks for a righteous world community. We cannot look the other way when grave human rights violations towards adherents of Falun Gong in the China region are continuing to take place day after day. By publicly denouncing these attrocities, WE CAN change the world for the better. Thank you
Maria A. Fiatarone Singh, Australia
If global economic policy is not subservient to a higher moral code of conduct governing international relations, we have failed in our duty to each other and our planet
Linda Wu, Denmark
When there still exist Communist Party in the world, then no peace will be in the world. The worst Communist Party is Chinese one, which has already killed 80 million people and is continue killing people every day.
Maria Chang, U.S.A.
Falun Gong practitioners have been vilified and terribly persecuted. I know because I'm a scholar and wrote a book on Falun Gong that was published by the Yale University Press. President Obama, please speak up for the persecuted and the powerless.
Nan Li, Washington, U.S.A.
One of the greatest strengths of our nation is that it holds first its principles. Our constitution defines the basic human rights for our citizens. We should help other nations to honor these rights to their citizens as well. Selling our principle for money is not what we should do, or even think about.
Jimmy Erickson, U.S.A.
My name is Jimmy Erickson. I have always been interested in Falun Dafa exercise, ITS AN EXCERSICE!!!! how can one be Raped and Beaten for improving one's self... my Father was a pow in WW2, I thought the world Learned from it.. what China is doing to its own people, is unbelievable!!!!! Mr. President, Please help the women and men in China.
Deborah Griffin
Please do not allow this abuse to continue, even for the sake of the economy.
Charlotte Thomas, Florida, U.S.A.
There are some horrible things going on in China and we need to stop looking the other way. May God help us do the right thing.
Verplancke Ingeborg, Belgium
More than ever before in history, it is time to take a stand. The West helped tear down the Berlin wall. Mr Obama, you can help tear down the invisible walls that imprison a suppressed people.
Benjamin Short
No one is free while others are oppressed.
Salyi Peter Emanuel, Romania
I will sign every petition i can find about the persecutions in China. IT IS NOT RIGHT AND IT'S INIMAGINABLE THAT NOBODY (OF A HIGHER POWER) SAYS ANYTHING.THIS CAN"T GO ON AS IS.
Lori Bouwman
I'm so thankful you reference Abraham Lincoln as your role model. Had Abraham Lincoln not been so dedicated to the founding principles of America, had he instead carried on a policy of economic engagement with the South, rationalizing that the profit would somehow trickle down in the form of greater freedom for the slaves, that would be equivalent to today's China policy, and there would be no President Obama. Today, our founding principles and values have eroded to the point where we have accepted a China policy based on greed rather than principle for the past twenty years. Please uphold the values of America on this visit.
Howard Jia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
During the Cold War, President Reagan had the courage to call the Communist Soviet Union "evil empire." His clear sense of morals eventually led to the downfall of the Communist Giant. Now, the Chinese Communists are carrying the torch of Lenin and Stalin to continue to bully its people and gradually roll back on our democratic development. It is now time to reclaim our moral superiority over Communist China, and support the Chinese people.
Cheryl Hunter-Grah, Tennessee, U.S.A.
Please show the world that we are who we say we are.
Cathy Jin
United States, which is the leader of the world, helping the human rights in China is very important. Mr. Obama, if he say "stop" to the persecution of the Falungong in China, if he say "no" to Chinese communist regime, he will be fully deserved for his Nobel Peace Prize. He will be the one of the greatest presidents in American history.
M Abu, UK
It takes one person to project a dream, and many others follow after seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Obama, you have something which is not common with any other common man and I believe if you stick to your guns and communicate with the rest of us you will be able to achieve those difficult but workable dreams. Free the people of the world, give a chance to every child as you wish for your daughter. Imagine if it was your daughter under those oppressive regimes, what would [you] have done, imagine if it were your daughter who lived without the basic necessities of life, like medical care, freedom of speech, education, hope,? Yes you can and please do not loose yourself.
Corinne Malaske, Minnesota, U.S.A.
I would like to add my voice in support of this petition. I have practiced Falun Gong since 1999. It was a very difficult time in my life, [with] severe medical issues and many other life challenges. During that time i came into contact with Falun Gong. The practice changed my life. I now have my health and life back. I have found no basis for the lies and persecution perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party's more than 10-year attack on this practice. Only an attempt to destroy good core human moral values in every way. America has always been the bastion of core values of freedom and morality. Let's not stop now. I care for the future of my children and indeed all those who believe in good righteous values. We need to secure the future of freedom. Thank you.
Michael Carter, New Jersey, U.S.A.
Mr. President you have an opportunity to meet with those who are at the root of most of the problems in the world. Open your mind and eyes and see the CCP for what it is.
Niccolo Perego, Milan, Italy
Stop the brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners and all crimes against humanity that are being carried out by the Chinese Communist Party in China. Falun Dafa is good. The world needs Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.
Mark Mathews
Mr. President: As you prepare to visit China, please remember that the Chinese Communist Party is not the same thing as "China" and that it does not represent the best interests of the Chinese people. This brutal regime is responsible for the ongoing bloody persecution of innocent Chinese people who only want to improve their morality and health by practicing Falun Gong. I believe that in your heart you support Falun Gong, and I understand your difficult position to do anything about the persecution by the CCP. However, I'd like to suggest that you look to the future (the near future) when the Chinese people finally discard this Evil Beast and embrace freedom and justice. At that time, they will remember how you "engage" with "China" and how you address the party's brutality toward them.
Dr. Gwendalle Cooper, California, U.S.A.
One person lacking freedom is a threat to everyone's freedom. We cannot live in isolation and expect the benefits of freedom that we desire. If we put money, profit and expediency before right action and thinking, then we shall reap the rewards of such pursuits. "Do us proud," Mr. President. I encourage you to righteously face the issue of abuse of Human Rights in China, especially of innocent people like the Falun Gong who only practice Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance.. This is considered a crime by the government in China.
Gisela Sommer, U.S.A.
Dear Mr. President, You have already accomplished many things during your brief presidency which has been marked by the most challenging economic and financial turmoil our country has experienced since the great depression. At the same time you have also been honored with the Nobel Peace Prize. I hope that this great symbol will make you even more aware of your great responsibilities as the leader of the free world. In a world that has become an interconnected global trading community, people are saying we are tied at the hip to China. I find it ironic, given that China is the worst human rights abuser of all times, and we, on the other hand, pride ourselves to be number one in respecting basic human rights and freedoms. I feel it can only be interpreted as a monumental test of America's values. In a recent poll over 50% of Americans said they do not trust the Chinese regime. That was a clear message. Americans are looking to you for leadership not only for our economy, but also for moral leadership, to hold up the high values of our nation's founders, as these are the true foundation of our country's health, peace and prosperity. The (unelected) Chinese Communist Party (CCP) dictatorship (Mafia would be a better name) is known to be responsible for the deaths (during peace times) of 65-80 million of its citizens. These numbers do not refer merely to past atrocities during the Mao (the greatest mass murderer in history) era, but have continued under the communist regime to the present day. The Tiananmen Square massacre of 20 years ago gave the world a glimpse of what is business as usual in China. The ten-year persecution--labor camps, thousands of deaths by torture and mass-murder for organs--of the spiritual Falun Gong movement is to the credit of the Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao "administrations." As the President of the United States, you have the responsibility to protect our nation from being corrupted by this atrocious anti-humanity regime. The best protection is to SPEAK OUT PUBLICLY (not behind closed doors) against the CCP's human rights abuses. The CCP will get flustered and act angry, threaten sanctions etc. But they are only bluffing! Underneath all that posturing is a great fear that their (propaganda-raised) citizens will find out the truth of what their own government has and is doing to them and that their "reign of terror" might come to an end. A few days ago was the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down. This is an excellent starting point for a speech. Communism has brought only terror and tears to the people it enslaved. It is time for another American president to say those words, "Mr. President, tear down that wall!" If you don't speak out now, Mr. President, when will you? When China has built up it's military to the extent that they can seriously do us harm? Now is the time to speak. Heaven has bestowed you with this opportunity.
Robert Gaudreau
Dear President Obama, Just like individuals, a country also has a soul, an eternal spirit, that is held accountable for its moral record. After the almighty dollar is spent, what will our country have to offer its creator...hopefully not an empty excuse like "the economy" made me do it...
Terri Marsh Human Rights Law Foundation, Washington D.C., U.S.A.
Spirituality, belief and conscience inhabit a unique geography in the human mind and spirit as the continents of experience common to all mankind. Whenever this innermost territory of the human spirit is claimed, conquered by external political authority in any part of the world, it insults the dignity of the human spirit everywhere. Yes, our economic well being is important. Yes, the well being of our environment is important. But so too is the health of the human spirit, which requires the right to exercise moral choice and determine one's own character. We are endangered by its suppression anywhere, as we are impoverished by our failure to defend it. HRLF supports this petition.
Kremena Krumova, Sofia, Bulgaria
President Obama, please show your Chinese counterpart, that the democratic world, incl. U.S., is openly against the persecution of Falun Gong and tell him that we all know what is happening in China and will not stop revealing those atrocities, until they stop and until the perpetrators are exposed. Thank you!
Arleen Freeman, California, U.S.A.
Over the years I have seen my fellow Americans lose sight of our core values. When it comes to how China treats its citizens, we look the other way. From Christians to Falun Gong, from Tibet to Xinjiang, from Tiananmen Square to the Olympics, and from those who take a stand against corruption to the Chinese lawyers who defend all of these people's rights in the face of an oppressive totalitarian regime - what we see is a government that makes money on the shoulders of those it subjugates. President Obama, please be like the President you admire so much, Abraham Lincoln. Don't the Chinese people deserve the same freedom that enabled you to become our President?
