(Minghui.org) Fang Binxing, President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, is infamous as the chief architect of China's "Golden shield," also known as the "Great Firewall of China." His role in Internet censorship earned him the nickname “Father of the Great Firewall.” When the 53 year-old Mr. Fang recently resigned due to rectal cancer, the twittersphere erupted with joy.
For years, China has been regarded by the international community as a “common enemy of the Internet”. Fang is largely responsible for this image. He has long been despised by China's netizens for assisting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to censor the Internet.
On February 9, 2013 Fang sent a New Year greetings message to Internet users on China's Weibo website (similar to Twitter). He received 250,000 “Get Lost” reply messages and closed comments shortly afterwards.
The CCP regime started building a firewall to censor websites in 1998. The firewall underwent rapid development after the Jiang Zemin regime started persecuting Falun Gong in July, 1999.
The CCP immediately fabricated lies to slander and defame Falun Gong in order to create an atmosphere of distrust in Chinese citizens, and also to provide excuses for its inhumane persecution of practitioners.
The firewall project was given unprecedented political priority under Jiang Zemin's instructions, simultaneously providing the means to conceal the truth. Under these circumstances, Fang played his infamous role in the accelerated development of China's Great Fire Wall.
It is not surprising that Chinese netizens hate the GFW so much, after looking at how facts about Falun Gong are blocked and how convincingly lies are accepted. Many Chinese internet users are technology-savvy and aware of GFW restrictions – not to mention government propaganda and disinformation – so their resentment of Fang is easily understood.
After the persecution began, the CCP deployed their complete propaganda apparatus including TV, radio, newspaper and the Internet to defame Falun Gong. The entire country was saturated with rampant lies. It was like the Cultural Revolution all over again, but worse.
I remember events in my hometown during the Cultural Revolution. By the time we got to read a newspaper, it was nearly two weeks old. Nowadays with advanced telecommunications, the popularization of TV and extensive use of the Internet, modern propaganda apparatus are far superior to what was available during the Cultural Revolution.
Fabrications by the CCP can be disseminated instantly worldwide. And the persecution and propaganda campaign against Falun Gong is unprecedented in terms of technology, scale and coverage.
The biggest propaganda stunt of all was the so-called “Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation” in January 2001.
Based on the video footage of the incident provided by CCTV, overseas Falun Gong practitioners created the program “False Fire” to expose the hoax to the world.
Viewing the CCTV footage in slow motion, one can clearly observe that Liu Chunling, claimed to have died from burn injuries, was in fact hit by a blunt-force object from behind. She was killed instantly from the blow.
The police officer standing idly behind Wang Jindong, another “self-immolator” who sat on the ground and shouted slogans, waited for him to finish shouting before spreading the fire blanket over his head. The plastic bottle remained intact between Wang's legs after he set himself on fire and his clothes were burned to pieces. How is that possible in a gasoline fire?
The CCP has never given a proper response to the inaccuracies and inconsistencies for this hoax, yet the footage is still being used to brainwash Chinese people.
This subject is even included in primary school textbooks to poison children's minds. The CCP continues to deceive the Chinese people, blocking all communications channels with the GFW.
Thoughtful individuals should maintain their ethical integrity and not cooperate with such persons as Fang. He acted without even basic ethics and utilized his skill to divide the entire Internet in China into isolated LANs (local area networks), thus cutting off the channels from which people could learn the facts.
He is in direct compliance with the CCP to block citizens from accessing independent media, and is therefore mocked by them.
His life was illustrated by netizens in a sarcastic couplet: “Thousands of People Point Fingers at You When You Are Alive; One Humiliating Name Will Follow You after You Pass Away.” The title of the poem was “A Life Journey Not Taken in Vain.”
The immoral CCP can easily replace Fang Binxing with someone else to maintain the GFW, and it will not loosen its stranglehold on the truth simply because Fang is spurned by the general public.
We would like to suggest to those following in Fang's footsteps, to look directly at the truth people are longing for, because they do not want to live in a world of lies.
Please, do not collude with the CCP for your own personal interest. Instead, side with the people to disintegrate the CCP and eliminate the GFW!
