Additional Persecution News from China – February 17, 2014 (9 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 9 cities or counties in 6 provinces. According to this report, 8 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 4 practitioners were illegally arrested.

1. [Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Tao Wenyue Detained

Ms. Tao Wenyue went to talk to Du Li, Domestic Security Division political head, about Falun Gong on the afternoon of February 13, 2014. Du Li arrested her and searched her home. Ms. Tao is being held in the Lianyungang City Detention Center for 15 days.

2. [Yichang City, Hubei Province] Three Practitioners Face Trial

Ms. Chou Min, Mr. Hu Zongzhi, and Ms. Xie Houmei are facing a trial on February 19, 2014.

3. [Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Xiong Cui Detained

Officers from the Minzhu Police Station broke into Ms. Xiong Cui's barbershop and ransacked the place. The police found a few copies of Falun Gong materials, so they arrested Ms. Xiong. She is held in the Shuangcheng City Detention Center.

4. [Tonghe County, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Yan Fangjun's Family Victims of Extortion

Officers from the No. 1 Police Station in Tonghe County and the deputy director of the Police Station of Nonghe Town smashed a glass door to break into Mr. Yan Fangjun's home on the evening of March 29, 2013. The police beat Mr. Yan, knocked him down, and arrested him.

Mr. Yan was first taken to the No. 1 Police Station, then to the Tonghe County Detention Center for 15 days of detention. After 10 days, his family asked someone with connections to the Tonghe County Police Department for Mr. Yan's release. He was released after the police extorted 12,000 yuan from his family. He also had to pay more than 600 yuan more for meals when he left the detention center.

5. [Xiong County, Hebei Province] Ms. Bai Ailou Officially Placed Under Arrest

Ms. Bai Ailou was arrested on the morning of December 17, 2013. She is still in the Baoding Detention Center. Her arrest was approved before the New Year.

Mr. Han Hongzhi, Ms. Bai's husband, has been forced to leave town and has no where to stay.

6. [Liyang City, Jiangsu Province] Two Practitioners Face Trial

Ms. Zhang Meiying and Ms. Huang Wenqin were scheduled to be tried in the Liyang City Court on the morning of February 19, 2014.

Ms. Zhang and Ms. Huang were arrested by the Liyang City Domestic Security Division and the Ximen Police Station on November 8, 2013. They are now in the Changzhou City Detention Center.

7. [Fuyu County, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Zhou Chuanliang Arrested for Watching Shen Yun DVD at Home

Mr. Zhou Chuanliang was arrested while watching a Shen Yun DVD at his home.

8. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Piyun's Hair Turns Completely White in Six Months

Mr. Li Piyun, 65, from the Dongling District was arrested at the end of 2013. He was sentenced to three years in prison by the Dongling District Court. After more than six months of torture, he was pale and his hair turned completely white. His family still has not been notified of the sentencing.

9. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Junying Arrested

Ms. Zhang Junying and her child, about 10 years old, were arrested while telling people about Falun Gong on the afternoon of February 16, 2014. Both were taken to the Beigou Police Station. They did not cooperate with the police and refused to sign their names. Four hours later they were released.
