(Minghui.org) I started to distribute Falun Gong materials daily after I was released from a prison in 2006. At first I only went out at night and left brochures at no more than 6 to 8 buildings, each with about five apartments.
Materials Discarded Unread
After some time I noticed that just distributing the flyers was not a good idea. I realized it was important to learn if people who weren't reading them threw them away without glancing at them, or because they were against Falun Gong.
I noticed that one couple always threw away whatever I left at their door. Saving sentient beings seemed truly a difficult task.
Another night I distributed 10 packages of Falun Gong materials in a single building. I went there the next morning and found six packages in the trash can.
I once delivered 50 video CDs about quitting the CCP in a particular residential area, and a child reported it to police. They told the child to collect all the CDs and turn them over to them.
My heart ached. It costs money to make those materials, and many practitioners who could barely make ends meet had contributed to get them made. Many had lost their jobs and had to leave home to avoid police harassment. Producing such materials is a joint effort, and they should not end up in the trash.
Talking Face-to-Face
This experience was an eye-opener, and I decided to change how I let people know about Falun Gong.
Instead of just putting the brochures in mailboxes or leaving them in front of doors, I decided on the face-to-face approach. That way, I could give them only to people who wanted to read them.
My xinxing improved once I decided on that tack. Nearly free from fear, I was able to do it in a dignified and upright manner. When people did not want a brochure, I bore them no grudge.
Materials Are Precious and Eye-opening
Many people attend our local fair, which provides me with an ideal opportunity to talk to people about Falun Gong.
This means that I have to take along more flyers and other materials. I am able to do that by putting everything in the basket of my bike. I put some of the materials in my coat pockets when I start my distribution. It is easy to go back to the bike and refill my pockets.
Most young people do not want to accept anything, while older ones are more willing to take the materials. Almost all the elderly accept what I have and read it right away. Many say things like, “This is precious. It is truly eye-opening!”
Feeling Lost Without Flyers
I saw some men moving sacks of flour from a truck into a bakery and told them that I had something for them. When one of the men saw what I had, he yelled, “Falun Dafa is good! Master Li is good!” I was very moved.
Another one said, “These brochures are a must-have. I would feel lost if I did not read them, like a starving man who has not eaten for days. ” He could not wait for me to hand him what I had, and they all asked me to bring more from time to time.
In my bike basket I had Falun Gong video CDs and leaflets. People crowded around, and I had a hard time keeping my bike upright. A man gave me a hand and said, “Please don't push. Let's queue up. Every one will get his share.” I saw in their eyes how eager they were.
People often ask what I am giving out. When they find out it is about Falun Gong, they are interested and ask many questions about the practice.
Promoted Falun Gong Instead of Taken to Police Station
I was giving out materials at a fair before the New Year. People were crowded around me, when a man in his 60s seized my bike and cried, “What are you doing here? Distributing Falun Gong materials? You will be taken to the police station!”
I was fearless and remained calm and said, “My friend, have you ever read anything about Falun Gong before? You can truly benefit, so please take a look.”
In no time at all his attitude changed. He said, “Come and have a look. Here is Falun Gong information. It offers genuine salvation!”
His voice attracted even more people, and very soon everything had been given out.
An elderly couple wanted some leaflets and said that they would not leave me without them. I was very moved and asked them to please wait as I had run out and needed to get some more. I had come with another practitioner to the fair and she still had some brochures. The couple had waited for me to bring them the materials.
I could hardly hold back my tears and thought, “Sentient being have placed so much hope in us. As practitioners, we must be responsible to them. We should never let down the sentient beings and Master.”
Explaining Falun Gong on Different Occasions
There are many occasions--such as weddings, funerals, and holidays--when I can tell people about Falun Gong. I give informational materials to relatives, childhood friends, acquaintances, just about everyone I come across.
During the Chinese New Year over 50 members of our family meet for a dinner, which is the best opportunity to talk about Falun Gong. I give them materials, and they do not hesitate to read them immediately. One of my uncles not only quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), but said that he would practice Falun Gong.
I went to my hometown in May 2008, posted information on public bulletin boards, and gave leaflets to people in six villages. Many of my middle school classmates, who were officials at the of local government, quit the CCP
Because I talk to people, I know that they will not throw the brochures out. It is very likely that many such leaflets are wasted when we do not speak to the people we give them to.
