(Minghui.org) When I put in a lot of effort and have righteous thoughts, Master gives me the wisdom to handle all different situations. Without Master we cannot achieve anything.
I was distributing Shen Yun DVDs and I realized that sentient beings could feel it when I put all of myself into it, and they are becoming kinder.
I treasure each DVD. They represent diligent work and the efforts of Master and our fellow practitioners. They carry the hope of salvation.
Villagers are often not highly educated, so I do not talk at too high of a level. I use language that they can easily understand. I treat everyone with the utmost respect and kindness. They all need to be saved. I want everyone to understand what Shen Yun is all about, why they should watch it, and therefore be saved.
I think that by maintaining compassionate and kind thoughts, we can introduce Shen Yun effectively. I do not make promises such as getting rich after they watch Shen Yun. Instead, I tell them that we are giving away free DVDs of a global phenomenon of a great performing arts group. Shen Yun showcases 5000 years of traditional Chinese culture. Shen Yun is filled with songs, dances, and stories that allow everyone to get in touch with their traditional roots.
I tell them it is classical dance that is so graceful and beautiful, it is as if celestial maidens are on stage performing legendary stories. At first I thought my explanations were good enough, but then I realized something was lacking.
One day I met a man in his 40s who asked me, “Isn’t this Falun Gong?” I smiled and said it was. I could tell he was suspicious, and he then asked why we were distributing the DVDs and why he should watch it.
I told him we believe in gods, and that good and evil will receive their due rewards. However, people are now made to believe that there are no gods. People have forgotten. I told him Shen Yun could unlock his heart.
I began to realize that I needed to tell everyone why they should watch Shen Yun. So then I started to explain that Shen Yun could bring back traditional morality and belief in the divine. People were very receptive.
When I spoke to younger people, I would emphasize that Chinese culture is one of the greatest in the world and that Shen Yun is being seen around the world. Tickets to see Shen Yun perform live are not easy to secure, and Shen Yun has performed many times in Taiwan this year. I tell them that Shen Yun is a pure and upright art form.
I said to one older gentleman, “Sir, you must know at your age that people in the past were very good.” He sighed and agreed. I told him that people do not believe in the divine and do all sorts of bad things now, that through this art form we try to give people a chance to appreciate the divine and traditional morals. The man nodded and smiled.
Another time while talking to a group of villagers I brought up the example of Zhang Guolao riding backwards on his donkey. An older gentleman was convinced completely. I was told that this gentleman was intelligent and very knowledgeable about history. I explained to them how people should appreciate traditional culture. The older gentleman then gestured to the group, saying, “What she is saying is correct.” All eight of them took a Shen Yun DVD. One of them smiled and said, “This is Falun Gong!”
Sometimes I do not know what it is that can move people's hearts and what can overcome their doubts. But when I put forth effort and have righteous thoughts, Master gives me the wisdom.
When I distribute DVDs I often tell people that the best things are free. I share the story of Journey to the West, where Bodhisattva disguised as an old monk came to the East to look for a monk who could go the West to fetch the Buddhist scriptures. The old monk had this to say: “For those who can recognize this treasure, I won't charge you a penny; as for those who can't recognize it, I won't sell it at any price.”
Fellow practitioners could also introduce the show this way: “The show begins with Gods and Buddhas coming down from the heavens and the show ends with humans being saved from disasters by Gods and Buddhas.”
I have come to realize that the change in their behavior towards us also signifies the change in their attitude towards Falun Gong. And even though I did not talk to them about Falun Gong directly, they have been given a chance to be saved by accepting the Shen Yun DVD.
We go to the villages to distribute Shen Yun DVDs and clear away any doubts and suspicion that people have about Shen Yun.
