(Minghui.org) A 68-year-old woman with dangerously high blood pressure and other health problems was ordered to serve one year for her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Zhou Yufang further contracted scabies in prison. By the time she was released on January 3, 2020, her whole body was covered in scaly, itchy rashes.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhou, a Fushun City, Liaoning Province resident, was arrested three times between March 2018 and January 2019 for spreading information about Falun Gong.
She was in serious condition three days after her arrest on December 10, 2018 and taken to the hospital for resuscitation. The police took her back into custody on January 4, 2019, only weeks after she was released. Her family was given run-arounds between the police and Domestic Security Division when seeking her release.
Ms. Zhou’s heart condition recurred and her blood pressure was over 200 mmHg while she was detained at Fushun Detention Center. Yet the police still refused to release her.
The police later submitted her case to Xinfu District Procuratorate, which soon indicted her and forwarded her case to the court. She was sentenced to one year in October 2019 and ordered to finish serving the remaining three months of her term at Liaoning Women’s Prison, a place notorious for its brutal treatment of Falun Gong practitioners.
Despite her dangerously high blood pressure, the guards forced Ms. Zhou to stand for long hours every day while only allowing her to wear thin clothes and opening the window to freeze her in the cold winter, making her shiver.
The guards also forbade her from using the restroom, forcing her to relieve herself in her pants.
