At the age of 79, Ms. Cui Yajun was forced to live away from home to avoid being jailed for her faith in Falun Gong. She couldn’t go home even after she developed severe medical problems, but the authorities intensified the persecution by suspending her pension. She was in critical condition when she finally returned home in December 2024. She died days later, at the age of 83.
Ms. Cui, of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, went to the Guangning Township to put up posters about Falun Gong on March 2, 2020. She was reported to the Guangning Township Police Station and arrested soon afterwards. The police first took her to the police station and then to the Beizhen City Police Department for interrogation. After raiding her home and confiscating her Falun Gong informational materials, the police released her on bail at around 11 p.m. that day.
Ms. Cui’s family received a call from the Beizhen City Court on April 23, 2020 and was ordered to take her to the local court on May 6 that year. Pressured by the authorities, her family insisted that she sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to budge and was forced to live away from home to hide from the authorities.
After a few months of displacement, Ms. Cui developed some ailments and wanted to go home. However, officers from the Guangning Township Police Station and her family still insisted that she renounce Falun Gong. She had no choice but continued to live in displacement.
The Beizhen City Police Department later put Ms. Cui on the wanted list and froze her pension account, in an attempt to force her to return home by cutting off her income.
Ms. Cui became very sick in 2024. She contacted her family and returned home in mid-December 2024. The police were waiting for her when she stepped in the door. Her family took her to the hospital that evening, but the doctor said it was already too late for her to receive treatment. After she returned home, two officers stayed there to monitor her. Succumbing to the mental pressure, she died days later on December 22.
