A 73-year-old resident of Qian’an County, Jilin Province died on December 31, 2022, after enduring years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong, which she credited for curing her liver disease, heart disease, stomach cramps, and tuberculosis.
Ms. Yin Guifang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in July 2001 and was arrested while en route there. She was held at the Qian’an County Detention Center for 37 days before being given one year of forced labor at the Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin Province.
During her detention, her husband, who is disabled, was left to fend for himself. He fell ill and almost died.
After another arrest in October 2003, Ms. Yin was given one and a half years of forced labor. She developed some medical condition and the Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp released her one year ahead of time.
Ms. Yin was given two years of forced labor following an arrest in August 2008. The guards at the Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp tortured her with various means and she developed high blood pressure as a result. They released her on parole in October 2008.
As the police kept harassing her at home, Ms. Yin was forced to move twice. Still they tracked her down and went to her new residence to threaten her. The relentless persecution eventually claimed her life on December 31, 2022.
