(Minghui.org) Minghui.org recently confirmed the wrongful convictions in June 2024 of two Fuyang City, Anhui Province, residents for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Lingyun, around 50, and Ms. Hai Lanying, a retired teacher in her 70s, were arrested on March 31, 2022, while they distributed informational materials about Falun Gong in Yingshang County. They were later released on a 1.5-year bail. Officers from the Xieqiao Police Station and Yingshang County Police Department raided Ms. Hai’s home.
Ms. Zhang was taken back into custody and taken to the Fuyang City Detention Center on March 14, 2024. She was tried together with Ms. Hai on June 6, 2024. Both women were convicted at the end of the hearing.
Ms. Zhang was sentenced to one year. She appealed to the Fuyang City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold the original verdict.
Ms. Hai was given six months with one-year probation.
