(Minghui.org) Ms. Sun Wenwen, 77, from Fushun City, Liaoning Province is now serving a four-year term at the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison, Minghui.org learned in mid-March 2025.
Ms. Sun, a retired factory worker who was born in December 1947, was arrested on May 17, 2022, when she talked to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of her faith, Falun Gong, at a farmers’ market. The police raided her home that day and confiscated her Falun Gong books. She was released on bail around midnight, after her family was forced to pay an 8,000 yuan bail bond.
The police kept harassing Ms. Sun for the next few months, while submitting her case to the procuratorate because they wanted to prosecute her.
Ms. Sun was indicted on August 8, 2022. When she found out she was scheduled to appear in the Dongzhou District Court on September 15, 2022, she decided to live away from home and hide from the authorities. She was arrested months later and held in the Fushun City Detention Center.
The Dongzhou District Court sentenced Ms. Sun to four years and fined her 16,000 yuan in May 2023. She was then transferred to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison, which refused to admit her after she failed the required physical examination. She was taken back to the Fushun City Detention Center, where she remained until her eventual prison transfer at an unknown date.
Ms. Sun took up Falun Gong in July 1996. She credited the practice for changing her from a competitive person to someone who is considerate and kind. Her bronchitis and gynecological diseases also disappeared thanks to the practice.
