(Minghui.org) A Ning’an City, Heilongjiang Province, resident lost her appeal of a four-year prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong, Minghui.org recently learned.
Ms. Li Zhenjin, 62, was arrested on June 19, 2024, after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in a residential area. The police held her at the Mudanjiang City Detention Center, but did not inform her family of her case status. Her family managed to confirm her four-year sentence by the Hailin City Court and that her appeal to the Mudanjiang City Intermediate Court was rejected, but details about her indictment, trial and sentencing still aren’t clear.
Past Persecution
Ms. Li and her husband, Mr. Yang Dexian, began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. After the Chinese communist regime ordered the persecution in 1999, they were repeatedly targeted for not renouncing their faith. Mr. Yang died as a result of the persecution in September 2005. Their then-15-year-old child was also forced to drop out from school and lived in fear.
Ms. Li and five other practitioners drove to the suburbs of Jiamusi City in Heilongjiang Province to distribute Falun Gong materials on the evening of December 11, 2005. They were arrested by officers from the Songjiang Village Police Station on their way back and taken to the Jiamusi City Detention Center. Ms. Li was later given three years at the Jiamusi City Forced Labor Camp.
Ms. Li was arrested again at home on October 15, 2014. The police confiscated more than 6,000 yuan cash from her but later returned only 2,000 yuan. The two elderly practitioners who were staying at her place to hide from the police were also arrested and detained for 15 days. The Dongjingcheng Forestry Court sentenced Ms. Li to five years on August 5, 2015. She appealed to the Lin District Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict. She was admitted to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on November 18, 2015.
After Ms. Li was released on January 30, 2019, she was devastated to learn that her pension was suspended during her prison term, resulting in a financial loss of over 62,000 yuan.
