(Minghui.org) Two Longjing City, Jilin Province, residents were sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Jiang Xiuqin, 60, and Ms. Cai Yuhong, 56, were arrested on April 28, 2024. More than ten officers raided their homes and confiscated their Falun Gong books, portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, and some informational materials. Ms. Jiang’s nephew, a young man in his 20s who happened to be at her home, was beaten by the police and detained for eight hours. The police said they monitored both women for more than two months before arresting them.

Both women were detained at the Yanji City Detention Center and denied family visits. Ms. Jiang’s family recently confirmed that she was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison in the capital city of Changchun on November 20, 2024 to serve a 19-month term. They still haven’t been allowed to visit her.

Ms. Cai was originally sentenced to 14 months. Before she was sent to prison her husband suddenly became ill and was in critical condition. His manager at work went to the police station and demanded Ms. Cai be release dso she could care for her husband. The court later changed her term to two years with two years probation. She was released, but was ordered to report to the police on a regular basis. Her husband is recovering and has been discharged from the hospital.

Ms. Jiang began to practice Falun Gong in April 1997. Before that, she struggled with a severe skin condition for 15 years; she spent a fortune looking for cure, but to no avail. In less than one month after she took up Falun Gong, she recovered. She also changed her hot temper and became more considerate.

In November 1999, four months after the persecution started, Ms. Jiang went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested and detained for over a month.

Ms. Jiang returned to Beijing to appeal again in late December 2000 and was taken back to Longjing City. The guards at the Longjing City Detention Center beat her, slapped her face and burner her hand with a lighter. One officer threatened her, “I heard you are still single and not married. I would strip your clothes and rape you. Then I will throw you downstairs from the fourth floor.”

Ms. Jiang was later given a one-year term at the Changchun City Women’s Forced Labor Camp. She was beaten, deprived of sleep and forced to work from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day without pay.
