The Peanut Vendor Quit the CCP After I Kept My Promise

(Minghui.org) I’ve practiced Falun Dafa for more than twenty years, and have undergone tremendous physical and mental changes. I was frail, sickly, jealous, and petty, and I’m now healthy, happy, and kind.

Because I was indoctrinated with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ideology for decades, I still hold some elements of Party culture, such as saying the opposite of what I think, and not keeping promises.

I’m now eliminating these bad elements, and striving to become a trustworthy person. I’d like to share my story with you.

I went to the wholesale market and saw a roasted peanut vendor. She gave me a sample and I thought it was delicious. I hadn’t planned to buy any peanuts, but said casually, “I’ll come by another day and buy peanuts.”

I kept thinking about the peanut vendor after I returned home. I talked to her for a while that day, so why didn’t I tell her about Falun Dafa and the persecution? She didn’t ask me to buy her peanuts, so why did I tell her I would buy them?

As a practitioner, if I tell someone I’ll do something but don’t, aren’t I lying? Master asks us to be good and selfless people, but I didn’t really intend to buy her peanuts. Wasn’t I doing the opposite of Master’s teachings?

I searched inward and found CCP characteristics: I was dishonest, and lacked humility. I was hypocritical, arrogant, condescending, insincere, defensive, and afraid of offending others. How were these characteristics formed?

The CCP relies on violence and deception to maintain its regime. After it came to power, it inculcated distorted history into generations of the Chinese people. It indoctrinated them with atheism and the ideology of struggle, amplified their desires, and taught them to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. It distorted the truth deliberately, and made no distinction between right and wrong.

In a society like that, lying has become the norm for Chinese and an “essential quality and skill” for CCP officials. From government spokespersons to the media, from Party officials’ reports to the academic research in literature and history, from the public domain to one’s personal life, China’s society is filled with countless lies.

The CCP extended its ideology into classrooms. Political, Chinese language, and history textbooks are full of lies. I was born in the 70s, thus I was brainwashed by the CCP for decades.

When I read Master’s lectures I knew my behavior was wrong. Practitioners should hold ourselves to high standards and not behave like ordinary people. I should keep my word. How can I cultivate a heart of compassion when my mind is full of Party culture? I should rectify myself according to Falun Dafa’s standards, and remove the Party indoctrination. I should assimilate to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and become a noble person, be compassionate, and awaken people because this is my responsibility.

I adjusted my thinking when I recognized my shortcomings. With a sincere heart, I went to the market to look for the peanut vendor. I told her, “I was here few days ago and said I was going to buy your peanuts. I live according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, therefore, I should fulfill my promise. I came today to buy peanuts from you.”

She was surprised and puzzled, and looked at me with wide eyes. She couldn’t believe I came back to buy peanuts. In today’s society where people’s values are in decline and distorted, who keeps their promise?

I talked to her about Falun Dafa and the persecution, and explained the significance of renouncing the CCP. I said, “The CCP advocates a philosophy of struggle, carried out multiple campaigns and killed countless people, and has done many bad deeds. Humans cannot do anything about it, but heaven will. Anyone who joined its organizations has become its member, and will be held accountable for its crimes. One should distinguish right from wrong, and good from bad. Divine beings will protect those who renounce the CCP and its affiliated organizations.”

She was touched by my sincerity and kindness, and agreed to withdraw from the CCP. I’m happy for her because I know she will have a bright future.
