(Minghui.org) A woman in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, was sentenced to five and a half years with a fine (amount unknown) for her faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
Ms. Yan Derong, born in 1961, had just left her apartment building on August 16, 2023, when she was ambushed by several officers from the Xihuayuan Police Station. They targeted her after a student reported her for talking to him about Falun Gong.
The Xishan District Court sentenced Ms. Yan, a nurse who once worked for the Qujing Petroleum Oil Company, to five and a half years on an unknown date. Other details of her indictment, trial, and sentencing remain to be investigated.
This is not the first time that Ms. Yan has been targeted for her faith, which she took up in 2008 and credits for curing her stomach problems, chronic diarrhea, and cold intolerance. She went missing between December 6 and 10, 2011. Another Falun Gong practitioner discovered her gone when he went to visit her. He noticed her door was open, the lights were on, and the inside was in a mess.
That practitioner learned later that Ms. Yan had been arrested in December 2011 by the Kunming City Police Department agents. They confiscated her computer, printer, and other valuables.
The local 610 Office used starvation, hard labor, and other forms of abuse to try to make Ms. Yan renounce Falun Gong. She was later sentenced to three years in prison by the Kunming City Intermediate Court.
Ms. Yan was arrested again in July 2017. Four armed officers (only two in uniform) broke into her home and confiscated her computer, printer, and other valuables.
The Xishan District Court sentenced Ms. Yan to five years with a 10,000-yuan fine on December 4, 2017.
