Los Angeles, USA: Protesting the CCP’s Transnational Repression in Front of City Hall

(Minghui.org) On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Falun Gong practitioners held a peaceful protest in front of the Los Angeles City Hall to draw attention to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) transnational repression and infiltration.

They demonstrated the five Falun Gong exercises, talked to passersby, and collected signatures on a petition calling for an end to the CCP’s atrocities. Many people accepted flyers and spoke with practitioners, learning more about the CCP’s repression in the United States and expressing their support for Falun Gong.

Near a large banner reading “Please help stop the CCP’s transnational repression of Falun Gong,” the peaceful scene of practitioners quietly meditating and practicing the exercises provided a contrast to the bustling city streets. Government employees and other passersby stopped to watch and learn more about the issue.　

Practitioners demonstrated the exercises and raised awareness of the CCP’s transnational repression in front of the Los Angeles City Hall on August 26, 2025.

Ms. Frances Liu, a Falun Gong practitioner who helped organize the event, said, “We are expressing our peaceful appeal in front of City Hall in Los Angeles because the CCP has been escalating its persecution of Falun Gong and has extended its persecution to the United States. The CCP is exploiting the American judiciary and media, taking advantage of loopholes in American democracy.”

Multiple sources of evidence indicate that since 2024, the CCP has comprehensively escalated its repression of Falun Gong. In China, it continues to perpetrate horrific acts of genocide against Falun Gong; outside of China, the CCP has launched a war of public opinion and legal action, launching intensive attacks against Falun Gong and the Shen Yun Performing Arts Company, and even resorting to more extreme terrorist tactics, including death threats, bomb threats, threats of mass shootings, and arson threats.

In June of this year, the U.S. Congress held hearings to discuss the escalating trend of transnational repression and imposed sanctions on Chinese entities.

“We have recently met with officials at all levels of the U.S. government, and they are very concerned about the CCP’s transnational repression. We also feel their support for the Falun Gong community,” Ms. Liu said.

She added that the event also serves as an avenue to express gratitude to the U.S. Government for its support over the years, including the House of Representatives’ passage of the Falun Gong Protection Act.

In May of this year, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the Falun Gong Protection Act. This bill calls for the U.S. to halt the CCP’s state-sponsored forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience, and imposes sanctions on those in China who participate in or assist in forced organ harvesting.

Tourist: We Will Help Spread the Information

Many people who learned about the CCP’s persecution expressed support for Falun Gong practitioners.

Janne Tharin, a tourist from Switzerland, said, “We learned about these dark things that are happening through flyers. It’s helpful to share the truth about this. Many people may not know that the persecution is still ongoing, so spreading the information is crucial. I hope they [Falun Gong practitioners] will continue to share and spread this information,” she said.

David Panzella agreed, “I believe many people around the world are waiting to learn [the truth]. We will do our best to help spread this information. Please continue to spread the truth in this peaceful manner.”

The Power of Kindness

Every flyer accepted by passersby represented an opportunity for more people to learn about the issue.

Patrisha, a Los Angeles resident, carefully read a flyer and quietly watched the Falun Gong practitioners doing the exercises. “They are so kind,” she said. “Watching them makes me feel peaceful, and I want to practice with them. The world needs the values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.”

Panzera agreed with Patrisha and said, “It’s wonderful. They are so peaceful. This practice makes life more meaningful, and it conveys an important message. Everyone should have their own faith and persevere. This is so important.”
