(Minghui.org) After spending over ten years behind bars for practicing Falun Gong, a 63-year-old man in Chongqing was devastated to have his pension suspended. He managed to land a low-paying job in 2024, but his employer was pressured by the authorities to terminate him in May 2026 because of his faith.
Four Prison Sentences
Mr. Kuang Xinrong began practicing Falun Gong in early 1999, just months before the Chinese Communist Party ordered the nationwide persecution against this ancient mind and body practice. Because he refused to renounce his faith, Mr. Kuang was arrested multiple times and given three labor camps and a prison term.
Mr. Kuang was first arrested on September 13, 1999, for going to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. He was taken back to Chongqing and given a two-year term at the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp, where he was frequently beaten, tortured, and held in solitary confinement.
Because Mr. Kuang held firm to his faith when the labor camp term ended in September 2001, instead of releasing him, the local police and the 610 Office agents took him to the Jiangjin Brainwashing Center. He was detained for another year there and subjected to constant beatings.
In June 2003, less than a year after Mr. Kuang was released, he was arrested again and given another 18-month term at the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp. He was released in January 2005.
He was arrested another time on October 10, 2006, for talking to people about Falun Gong. This time, he was given a third labor camp term of two years and admitted to the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp on November 1, 2006.
Mr. Kuang’s next arrest was on September 2, 2009. He appeared in the Jiangjin District Court on January 25, 2010, and was sentenced to four years. He served time at the Yongchuan Prison.
The local police continued to harass Mr. Kuang after he was released on February 1, 2013. He was seized on the way home from grocery shopping on October 10, 2013, and held at a local brainwashing center for 40 days.
Mr. Kuang was arrested one more time on April 24, 2023, by more than ten officers. He was held at the Huayan Detention Center for eight months, and released on January 4, 2024.
Recent Harassment and Financial Devastation
Years of detention and torture took a toll on Mr. Kuang’s health, yet the authorities have suspended his pension (exact time unknown) to continue the persecution against him. After he was last released in January 2024, Mr. Kuang managed to find a job as a security guard, which required long hours with low pay.
Upon finding out about Mr. Kuang’s new job, director Chen of the Degan Town Comprehensive Management Office, along with a police officer, showed up at his home on April 25, 2026. They took photos of Mr. Kuang without his permission. He asked them to leave.
Chen returned on May 25 with another four officers, including Wang Zhouxiang and Wan, as well as Yang, a local government employee, and Yao, whose identity is unknown. Mr. Kuang demanded that they produce their IDs, but they refused.
The officers claimed that they were there to hear what difficulty Mr. Kuang was having, and where he worked. Mr. Kuang told them about his financial difficulties and how he was forced to work in his 60s just to make ends meet.
Soon, the authorities contacted Mr. Kuang’s employer and attempted to use his job to force him to renounce Falun Gong. He refused to comply and his employer fired him on May 28 under pressure from the police.
Persecution of Mr. Kuang’s Wife
Mr. Kuang’s wife, Ms. Huang Daifang, also practices Falun Gong. She was arrested with Mr. Kuang on October 10, 2006, and detained for an unknown amount of time. After another arrest on March 24, 2023, she was held at the Jiangjin District Detention Center, and later sentenced to 18 months by the Jiulongpo District Court. She was released on October 23, 2024.
