(Minghui.org) An 89-year-old woman in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was carried out of her home on a gurney and loaded into an ambulance on May 13, 2026. She was driven to Zhonghe Hospital, where she was held until June 15, when the police took her to the Shenyang City First Detention Center.

Ms. Liang Shuzhi’s systolic blood pressure was over 200 mmHg (normal is 120 mmHg or lower), so the detention center declined to admit her. The police took her back to the hospital, which is a designated medical facility for detainees.

The Shenyang City Police Department, the Heping District Police Department, and the Maluwan Police Station, which were all responsible for arresting Ms. Liang, refused to release her from the hospital or to update her family.

The police targeted Ms. Liang because she was sentenced to three years on March 27, 2023, for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999. She was released on bail shortly after her conviction because the Shenyang City First Detention Center, where she was ordered to serve time, declined to admit her due to her poor health.

Judge Lin Xiaojiao from the Liaozhong District Court, who convicted Ms. Liang, attempted to have her taken back into custody in September 2024, but she was still deemed unfit for detention. The Shenyang City Procuratorate, however, urged Lin to admit Ms. Liang to jail as soon as possible. Lin instructed Maluwan Police Station officers to take her to the detention center on December 30, 2024, but Ms. Liang again failed the physical exam and was denied admission.

After leaving the detention center in the suburb of Shenyang, Lin ordered the police to drop Ms. Liang off far from her home. Ms. Liang had to take a taxi to get back. Before she left, Lin threatened to take her to the detention center once a month after the Chinese New Year in early February 2025—until she was admitted.

Prosecutor Zhang from the Liaozhong District Procuratorate called Ms. Liang’s family in May 2025, notifying them that they needed to “see her” and possibly take her back into custody if her health allowed. On the afternoon of July 8 that year, officer Cui from the Maluwan Police Station seized her at home and took her to the detention center. During the required physical exam, she was found to have high blood pressure and signs of a heart attack.

The detention center declined to admit her, and she was taken home.

Four officers from the Maluwan Police Station broke into Ms. Liang’s home on the afternoon of April 17, 2026, saying that the Shenyang City Intermediate Court had ordered her to start serving time. When she refused to go with them, the police threatened to return the next day.

The police didn’t show up the next day but returned on May 13 to carry her away on a gurney. She is still being held in Zhonghe Hospital.
