(Minghui.org) A 57-year-old woman in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, was admitted to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison after losing her appeal of a 2.5-year term for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Yuan Xiuying’s ordeal began in 2023, when she returned to her hometown in Daying County, Sichuan Province, to care for her father. The Daying police monitored her closely. A relative mailed something to her father’s home. Within two or three hours, the relative received a call from the Daying police. The caller said they were conducting a census, but the questions they asked were about the package sent to Ms. Yuan.
Ms. Yuan boarded a train from Lanzhou City to Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, on the night of August 14, 2025. She had just settled in her seat for a few minutes when three officers showed up and ordered her to get off the train.
Ms. Yuan refused to comply. Half an hour later, captain Sun from the Qilihe District Domestic Security Office arrived. He said that Ms. Yuan was not allowed to travel to Chengdu, where the World Games 2025 was being held from August 7-17, 2025. She had no choice but to change her train ticket to a later time.
Ms. Yuan received a call from her 93-year-old father’s home aide after 7 a.m. on August 15, 2025, saying that he had fallen. She called officer An. He consulted a supervisor and said she could travel to Daying County but was barred from entering Chengdu.
Ms. Yuan rushed to her father’s side in the early morning of August 16, 2025. He fell into a coma, never regained consciousness, and died.
The Daying police traveled to Lanzhou City in early September 2025, together with agents of the Qilihe District Domestic Security Office, to look for Ms. Yuan. They eventually arrested her in late October 2025 and took her back to Daying County. She was held at the Suining City Detention Center.
The Daying County Court tried Ms. Yuan on March 4, 2026, and sentenced her to two and a half years at an unknown time. She filed an appeal with the Suining City Court, which ruled against her. She was then transferred to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison.
Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Yuan was repeatedly targeted for her faith. She was fired by her employer, the Lanzhou City Minbai Group. After an arrest on July 18, 2017, she was chained and shackled for nine days. She was later sentenced to two and a half years. After she was released on December 18, 2019, the local police kept harassing her at home.
