(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old woman in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, is facing indictment for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Arrest

Ms. Xie Chunmei, a former English teacher, left home around 11 a.m. on April 23, 2026, to visit her mother. At around 12:30 p.m., an officer from the Taoyuan Police Station showed up and spent over an hour working on her door before finally forcing it open.

Several more officers in a black sedan showed up and searched the place, including a comforter in her attic.

Another black sedan (license plate, Gan AC98M9) pulled over at 2:46 p.m. Three more officers from the Xihu District Police Department, including vice captain Wan Jun and Zhang Jing, went into Ms. Xie’s home and installed a surveillance device in about 15 minutes.

The remaining officers confiscated Ms. Xie’s Falun Gong books, cell phone, computer, and printer. Four of them waited outside the apartment building after the raid.

When Ms. Xie returned home around 4 p.m., the officers arrested her. They took her to the Xihu District Police Department and released her on bail around midnight.

The police submitted the case to the Xihu District Procuratorate, and Ms. Xie is now facing indictment.

Three Forced Labor Terms and One Prison Term Totaling 5 Years and 8 Months

Ms. Xie, born in March 1964, was sickly from the time she was a child. She suffered from anemia, dizziness, and stomach disorders. After she got married, she developed rheumatoid arthritis, insomnia, and other ailments. No form of treatment helped. After she started to practice Falun Gong in the summer of 1997, all her symptoms disappeared. She felt revitalizd.

Ms. Xie held firm to her faith after the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999. She was repeatedly targeted before her latest arrest.

She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in October 1999 and was detained for several days. Over the next few years, she was given three forced labor terms totaling four and a half years (October 2005-October 2006, October 2007-April 2009, and April 2009-April 2011). The third labor camp term was implemented only eight days after she completed her second one.

Ms. Xie went into hiding in October 2012 to avoid being taken to a brainwashing center. She was arrested in November 2014 and kept in the brainwashing center for over ten days.

The police raided Ms. Xie’s home in September 2015. Her employer, the Nanchang City No. 20 Middle School, fired her soon afterwards. When she went to the Nanchang City Education Bureau on April 26, 2017, to ask for her job back, she was arrested and detained for ten days.

Ms. Xie was arrested at home on July 18, 2020, while reading Falun Gong books with Ms. Liang Meihua and Ms. Xiong Quanmei. All three of them were sentenced on August 25, 2021. Ms. Liang was sentenced to two years and eight months with a 5,000-yuan fine. Ms. Xiong was given one year and 10 months with a 3,000-yuan fine. Ms. Xie was sentenced to one year and two months with a 5,000-yuan fine.

Ms. Xie was released from prison on September 18, 2021. Unable to cope with her repeated arrests, her husband divorced her on an unknown date.
